Installing a '67 steering wheel on a '68

Howdy there, this is my first post and I’m excited that I may finally get some good advice (other than “don’t do it”) about putting the steering wheel from a '67 Cougar on a '68. I understand that the columns are different diameters, but it seems that an adaptor kit is available to make the difference less obvious. Has anyone here done that or seen it done? It may be heresy, but I really like the '67s better… Thanks in advance!

There is a big difference between the diameter of the 67 and 68 column. I think Jody did a swap like this on his 68 convertible. I believe that he used a black plastic coffee can lid as a spacer to kill the gap on the 68 column. It worked well from the pictures I saw. Search CopycatVert and you might find the photo.

Thanks, 1967 S Code, but I couldn’t find anything technical to help me out. I can’t be the first person to want to do this…

I knew this topic had been covered by Jody on his 68 convertible. Here is the link: 67 Steering Wheel on 68 Tilt - Classic Cougar Maintenance Restoration and Repair - Classic Cougar Community Forum
