Asa Jay Laughton here, new to the forum. I’ve owned a 1971 Mustang Mach I since 1985 and I feel it’s time I moved to the next car I had a passion for, the ’67 or ‘68 Cougar. I also owned a DeTomaso Pantera for around 18 years and sold it back in 2016 after having done everything I had wanted to and enjoyed nearly every minute of it.
Now, it’s Cougar time. I’m looking to buy a solid car, probably a base model though an XR-7 is preferred it doesn’t have to be one. It doesn’t have to be “special” in any other way either. That’s because I plan to modify it and it’s okay to ask me how (engine, trans, interior, updated safety, etc.), but I want to definitely keep the sexy Cougar body lines.
That said I’m not looking to do a concourse restoration but I do need a solid virtually rust free structurally sound and straight body, all good glass, decent but not perfect interior (missing things that can still be sourced is okay), does not need an engine, does not need a transmission, automatic pedal set is preferred over manual since I pan to install a C6 behind a 351C.
My budget is capped at $12,000 right now depending on how complete and straight the car is. I would prefer keeping the price around $10k or less if possible. I live near Spokane WA, have a car trailer and I’m willing to drive up to about 1,000 miles if it’s the right car at the right price.
I’ve been browsing the marketplace and will be reaching out to at least one person.
Having owned and worked extensively on both the 1971 Mach I and the 1973 Pantera, I’m familiar
with the family so to speak. I need to learn the ins and outs of the Cougar and find a nice car I can use as my base.
And there we have it. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
