Its been sitting a couple of years

So unfortunately, I have let my '70 XR7 351w sit for a year or two. Trying to get it back running again. I have a 4bbl Holley 4160 600cfm carb that I just took off and cleaned/rebuilt (metering screws are backed 1.5 turns from bottom). I put it back on today hoping I could get it fired up and moving. I have my timing set roughly to10 degrees BTDC. I can get it to run (a little smokey…kind of a dark grey), and if I let it get below 1400 rpms it starts chugging and cuts off… giving it throttle sounds smooth/good/normal, So I don’t feel like my timing is way out of whack. Was wondering if this is just old gas causing my problems, or is there something else I need to be looking at?
Any help/suggestions would be great

Old gas is definitely an issue. Drain it and start over

Check that the secondary shaft is completely closed at idle. The linkage may need adjustment by bending the rod.

May want to remove, clean, and re-gap your plugs. The old gas may have fouled them a bit. Also if equipped, clean/replace and adjust your points.

Check your float levels. Open the side sight plug and adjust the level to the bottom of the opening. Fresh gas, clean plugs and check the secondary throttles closing are great suggestions too.

Vac leak… old rubber caps?
