Junkyard score!

Found this pretty clean 71 at the pick a part in Buffalo NY… 6 hours later, I had almost everything I needed to restore my 1971 429 car. Had to drive 6 hours each way from Detroit but it was a fun adventure with my son!

Nice score!
Don’t forget to send the VIN and buck tag information to Phil.

Will do!

Nice score! Seems odd to me that that solid of a Cougar would be in a wrecking yard in your part of the world. But it’s really a good thing for you!
Keep us updated on your work.

P.S. That one was fairly well optioned too.

Are you going back for the disc brakes?

It was a Dallas DSO 22 car… must have moved to New York later in life. There was a map of knotts berry farm in California from 1975 in the car. Has a 2015 NY inspection sticker, so it has been on the road fairly recently.
Roof and cowl were rusty, as was the trunk floor… still mostly original paint… the original tri stripe at the bottom is still there. Wheel wells and drop offs are nice. Ironically, my 429 car has a nice roof and floors, but the fenders, doors and quarters need to be replaced. It’s a vinyl top delete xr7 with a dealer installed vinyl top, so at least the roof was fully painted under the vinyl.

No Don, we were out of time… we closed the place down.
I was cutting like a madman! Got a ton of small stuff too. Decent rocker moldings, nice strut rods, shock tower braces, the plastic fillers around the back bumper, a nice autolite starter relay, rear valance, door pull straps, good front bumper with guards and brackets. And a full set of power windows with good motors and regulators. The price was right too.
I think the brakes are the only thing left…

They wouldn’t sell you he whole car? I know some states that can’t.

Nice find

Not suppose to in many cases other times it becomes an issue and you have be issued a salvage title by the state. Out here it depends on what stage the paperwork is in. Bought a factory mistake car years ago from Pick in Pull. Told me that they could not sell it but after some discussion they agreed to sell it if I cut in on two pieces. I just showed up later that day, paid for it then slipped the guy loading the car 20 bucks and we sort of forgot to cut the car in half.

It had been in the yard for a week or 2 already. Drivetrain was gone, seats console and the dash were also gone. Everything else was pretty much untouched. I drove 6 hours not knowing how much was left or how good the parts actually were… I couldn’t believe it was still pretty much intact!
I don’t have anywhere to put a parts car so this worked out for the best and it was way cheaper… like $400 for everything.

Still an excellent score.
