Just bought my first car (68 couger)

So i just bought my first car. a 1968 mercury couger and its all original except for the paint job. from my perspective the car in full is in great shape no rust just some small Bondo patches to fill some dents and only some minor issues to fix. The car does run and drive and the interior is in great condition with no rips or tears in the seats.

Well look at that. New guy, just got his first car and already has it on a rotisserie.

Welcome and good luck with it. If you hang around long enough, you’ll find that I’m a big fan of orange first generation cats.

Welcome and thanks for posting pics!

When you get a chance, post the door tag info.

Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. Post your story on how you came to buying a Cougar.

Congrats! That looks like a big block! Can you share your VIN number and door data tag on the driver side door? What options does it have? AC? Power disc brakes? Love the old school wheels! Welcome!

We too a look at the vin an the original color is 3120-a yellow and the engine is a 390. With disc brakes. No Ac ill post the vin later

The pic is a bit blurry, but at a glance that looks like a Cleveland to me … I just can’t make that head/water-pump/intake area look like a 390 …

Also it might help to look for the red underlined words occasionally …

Vin# 8F91X514559 for anyone who may be interested.

Neat car, good luck w/it.

Hey - Welcome to our little corner of the interweb! Not many guys these days buying Cougars as their first cars - very cool! Just remember:
Old cars are fun
Old cars are fun
Old cars are fun
Old cars are fu…n!

Also it might help to look for the red underlined words occasionally …

It’s ok - he could have bought a Camero.

The color code isn’t part of the VIN, nor is it a number; it’s a single letter on the door tag (metal tag on the driver’s door, under the latch). If you want to post the info on that tag we can tell you what it all means.

Anyway congrats, looks like a fun car!

the first time I googled that code I came up as Saxony yellow but that could have just been a fluke but thanks for pointing that out, but I do know it is the Saxony because we found the color hidden by the headlights and as far as I know the car has only been painted once
and a bad paintjob at that lol I hate the color so ill be getting it re painted not sure what color yet.
