I really liked this video, I showed my wife and she said, “Thats nice dear”
By the way, does anyone know who made this?
I really liked this video. I thought it was really from 1968 but there were some small things that stood out and said otherwise. Very Cool! It gets two from me.
Steven
Well done!
I’m the guilty culprit, as some of you may already know. My friend Brian Cooley and I had a lot of fun planning and shooting the video, and a special thanks to my friend Sue, the sexy blonde in the white boots.
Dennis well done. You pulled off a cool idea with this video.
Steven
Hahahaha, very neat!
I’ve always wanted to stage and shoot some “vintage” Cougar stuff with my Dad’s old Super 8 camera setup.
Great job!!
Thanks, Steven.
You can also check out the one we did with my '73 Marquis Brougham – Brian, Sue and had fun making that one too.
BTW, both videos were mostly filmed in San Francisco. Lincoln-Mercury actually did shoot some commercials and some photography work back in the mid-'60s to at least 1970.
Dennis I did a search and I found no results. Can you post a link to the video. Thanks
Steven
Great job! It definitely has the right 1968 flavor. Some very cool camera shots that are reminiscent of the old ads. Would have been even better if it was shot on film, of course, but that involves a lot more work Did you do the voice-over? The announcer voice was very convincing.
OK, Steven, let me see if this works. I can’t figure out how to post the actual video with the viewer, sorry.
Enjoy!
No, Blitz, that’s Brian’s voice. He works for CNET these days – before that, he was a deejay.
Great video Dennis. The concept is spot on for the time period. Driving, smoking and drinking not great selling points in today’s market. Back in the day a tv ad like that would have people in the showroom ready to make a purchase.

They really were great cars, we didn’t have one, but It was another big mercury model, Loved that car. As a kid I remember siting in the car waiting for my parents to come out, and I discovered a button in the glove box. so what kids do, I pushed it and I heard this Pthssssss sound. I pushed it again and again thinking cool cant figure out what it is doing, till I looked back and the trunk was open. I closed the trunk and pushed the button again and sure enough it was a vacuum trunk release. Soon the Pthssssss. went away when I emptied the vacuum tank, my parents thought it was cool as well when I showed them. Memory’s
Memories… My father built the Coral Gables Lincoln Mercury dealership. My grandfather was his project manager during the construction. My grandfather fell in love with the Mercury Cougar when it was brought in for the auto show. He ended up buying a 1967 model. My father bought a 1967 Lincoln Continental for my mom. It had that neat trunk release button also, I pushed it. I couldn’t resist It’s part of being a kid!

Dennis, Very nice video well done. I like the period correct dress and white go go boots!
Again, thanks everyone, for your kind words. We had a lot of fun making them.
I’ve had the black Marquis since 2003; bought it off eBay with 62K on it, flew out to Denver and drove it back to San Francisco as an exercise in faith. Only one breakdown – had to replace the alternator in Laramie, WY – but what a highway cruiser. Both sides of my family loved big cars. My father’s parents had a '76 Grand Marquis that I did a lot of my early driving on and I always had wanted one, so when this one came up on eBay, all black and LOADED, I had to have it. Have since rebuilt the 429, put a new front end/tires/brakes on it, and just done a lot of cleaning and minor maintenance. The black paint, though original and shiny, has a lot of minor chips and scratches. I was told it was originally a CA government car; it does have a DSO of 84 and CA Emissions, and was originally sold to Ford Motor Leasing, so that sounded plausible to me, not that it made that much more than interesting. One of the best things about this car (other than the way it rides with the rear self leveling suspension and the 8-track) is the respect it commands on the road. I almost think that people are somehow afraid of it and who might be in it! On the rare occasions when I’ve handed the keys to a valet, when I come back out, it’s always nearby.
If you’ve like to see another video Brian Cooley did with the '73 Marquis, do a search for " '73 Marquis Brougham" on the CNET website. As an April Fool’s Day joke a few years ago, he did a CNET car review of it. He also did one with his '88 Country Squire.
