Looks like I may be pulling the engine afterall, after finally getting past the ring seating issue. I took the car out for a spirited drive yesterday because a friend was up from Florida and he wanted to ride in it. It all started because he didn’t believe I could do a rolling burnout at 30 in second gear. Well, I proved it, but noticed some oil blowing out of the dipstick tube, and it just wasn’t the right color. Sure enough, I get home and pull the breather and find this:
Nothing burning from the exhaust, and all the plugs look clean. There was nothing like that in the oil last time I drove it, so something let loose recently. I am worried that it is a cylinder wall.
Looks like I may not be ordering my wheels just yet.
Did you drive the car long enough to get the oil to operating temp?
All engines condense a little moisture inside when they cool down, if the engine oil never gets hot enough to burn the moisture off, more collects and you have foam collecting in the oil cap/dipstick tube.
Still may have a seeping head gasket or a corroded front cover.

I hadnt thoughqt about condensation, but it seems like too much for that, since it is stored in a semi climate controlled garage instead of outside. I pulled the valve covers tonight and ther is a good bit in the valley and pooled up around the drainbacks too. I am half tempted to pull the engine and have it rehoned and bush the lifter bores anyway, given that the block is ok. I may even fill it with hard block and put on an oil cooler.
And that is some BS about the spoiler isn’t it. Some people are just dumb.
Yet again, Art is a genius. I think it may just be condensation. It sat so long without even being started over the winter, so im sure a bunch of moisture settled in. Not only that, but I havent even driven it for more than about 5 miles at a time in the last few months, and havent seen the oil temps get over about 150°. I have not noticed anymore milkiness on the dipstick so It seems to be going away slowly. I just need to take it out and drive it hard.
That’s the only problem with a Cleveland, you can’t be hopeful and try to blame that on just being an intake gasket…
Negative, ghost rider.
Glad to see it’s not a continuing thing.
I’d pull the valve covers and clean them, just to get the condensation foam off. People who don’t live with us (Me, you, Art, etc) in the South don’t understand the humidity.
Art is of course, the man, (in a Sammy Davis voice) “and I mean that”. Now if your issue is turning out to be a non-issue, then all is right in the world! The idea that you might have had to rip the engine out and apart again was pretty painful to read. Obviously not as painful as it was for you to face I’m sure, but still.
Mike. all you need to do is drive it? Sounds like an easy solution. You could shoot down to the Crescent city for a weekend , it’s only about a 10 hour drive, of course you would be spending about $100.00 a hour in gas. My door is always open! SalD
Yeah, it’s ridiculous. Here lately it has actually been getting below 25% in the afternoons, and that is very rare. They say you should have to refill the humidification system in most humidors about every 2 weeks, I find myself doing it only about every 2 or 3 months in my humidors, and they both still stay right at 70%.
I do believe Sal may have it worse than most of us though, it is pretty rough in New Orleans.
Thanks Bob, I was sweating it, but just kept driving it because I was to the point of replacing half of the wearable items, so why not keep driving it until I am ready to pull it.
You saying the problem is a Ford bottom end Bill? lol
Thanks Sal, if I do make it back to New Orleans I will let you know. We can meet up at Parisol’s for a muffaletta or a po’ boy. I have been craving one of their muffalettas for a while now, haven’t had one even close to as good since.
Oh and Andy, I already pulled the valve covers and they were fairly clean, just a couple of drops of milk here and there. I will do yet another oil change and clean it all out. This will make the 4th full pan of oil in less than 500 miles, and at 10 quarts of oil, it is getting annoying, lol.
