I have 67 w/ speaker pods and speakers behind original kick panels w/ perforations – but kick panels are cracked and broken. Haven’t found any good or reproduced kick panels w/ perforations. Are there any? I’m not keen on bulging pods in kick panels. Has anyone tried to keep a more original look while retaining original speakers in original pods?
I went with this item.www.npdlink.com/store/products/kick_panels_saddle_pair-137956-139589.html
I taped the old and new panel together and drilled all the holes. not perfect but you cant tell from the drivers seat. You can get them in different colors.
Let me know if you figure anything out. Im in the same boat as you.
I bought the repro panels with no holes. I had the stock pods behind the original panels. I ended up mounting small speakers flush in the panels. I don’t have a decent current picture. But they don’t bulge our at all. They really blend in.
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’ll look at this possibility too. I already have the holes in the sheet metal and the stock plastic pods, so there is some room back there. If I can find some speakers with a slim and modest grille. I might be able to blend them in pretty well.
I’ll try to get you a decent picture later tonight.
Just curious, what would you guys be willing to pay to have the holes stamped into the panels? I could have a tool built to do it at about $6500. Would it ever pay off?
I appreciate the idea, but I admit I’m skeptical. For me, my car already has some modifications, so I’m not trying to make a perfect original – just want something that doesn’t stand out as too different. My uninformed guess is that the demand would be small for perforated parts. Ron
How many Mustang owners would buy. That would be a bigger market. Be worth at least a $100 per pair.
My original parchment kick panels have cracks. I haven’t bought new because they don’t have the holes I need with the factory speaker pods. I would be interested in ones with the holes, but at what cost over and above the price of the present repops?
Remind me to talk to you about how to fix those cracks on Saturday.
I will try to remember.
Mustangs use speakers in the door.
In 67-8 I think they would have had the kick panel speakers and pods for the optional stereo system requiring them, same as like optioned 67-8 Cougars.
I am certainly no Mustang expert, but a lot of stuff was quite similar year to year, option to option, between these cars.
It took me a bit to figure out the new picture posting procedure. Thanks for setting me straight Jay. Here you go.

People are probably going to ask… the cylinder looking piece above the speaker is the drier for the Vintage Air AC system. It’s a universal kit and I chose the hode that piece under the dash to clean up under the hood a little bit. Also to the left is “command central.” It’s the brainbox and wiring for the smoothed off door handles and power trunk solenoid. It also holds the electronic heater control valve that shuts off the hot coolant to the heater core when the AC is cranking as well as the relays for the rest of that system. Here’s a better look:
