Kickdown linkage leak

‘67 XR7 seems to have a slight leak from the kickdown linkage mechanism on the driver side of the C4 automatic transmission after a recent change of the filter and fluid. Ideas? Is there a bushing that needs to be replaced? Thanks

There is a seal and a bushing fo that matter but my limited experience with a c-4 is that you are over full on trans fluid . The old 68 we had required about 30 miles of driving to get to the check fluid when warm status…..otherwise it would puke fluid out the vent and all over the exhaust !!

Ended up running it about 1.5 qt low when cold

Thanks, hopefully that’s the problem and not the seal.

If the filter was recently replaced, do you think it might be the pan gasket weeping? If fluid is wet around the linkages, it probably needs both the shift shaft seal and kickdown lever seal. Best to clean the area using some carb cleaner or brake clean. Make it clean and dry, let it sit overnight and see if fluid is emanating from that area.

Go around the pan and make sure the bolts are tight. Not super tight, just make sure they’re snug. If it’s a cork gasket you may need to do this a couple of times to make sure the gasket is compressed properly.

Thanks. I had checked the pan bolts and gasket. The leak seems to be coming from the bushing on the kickdown linkage. Where can I get info/buy shift shaft and kickdown linkage seals? I’ve searched to no avail as yet.

A transmission shop can get them. If you have a transmission shop nearby, they might have it in stock. I like to stock odds and ends type stuff. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the question of where to get this stuff. I ought to put a kit together of shift and kickdown linkage seals.

Thanks. I’ll be your first customer.

I will get some stuff together for you.

Wow, thanks! Here’s a photo if that helps.
