Very cool! …I’m about 3 issues behind in my MCR reading >.<
I went to the local Barnes + Noble at lunch and bought a copy. Can’t wait to get home and read it tonight!
I was so excited about the G and CJ articles I flipped directly to them.
This morning, I sit down with a cup of coffee and browse the entire magazine and look what else is in there!!
It was a lot of fun working with Jerry starting at 5:00am on a brisk Sunday morning doing the photo shoot in Tulsa. Dave Wywras, Al Juraco and his friend John. We were all scrambling taking turns being Jerry’s lighting guys as he gave us orders so we could get all three Cougars photographed before the sun was full up. Made for a very busy photo shoot. I sure learned a lot watching Jerry do his work. Only disappointment is Muscle Car Review put another Cutlass on the cover vs a Cougar. But, the coverage inside makes up for it. They moved up the coverage on my G car. It wasn’t scheduled to go to print until about the January issue.
Yeah, very unusual for them to have two issues back-to-back with Cougar articles.
Great job everyone!
Very unusual for them to have two issues in the same YEAR with Cougar articles :-/
LOL - for sure!
I remember the old days of Super Ford, when they would do entire (or nearly) issues dedicated to Cougars.
LOL! Now if there was only a magazine dedicated to Cougars…

Huh? Crazy talk! ;-b
I am puzzled by something in the XR7-G article. Under engine choices it lists a low compression 302 with an engine code of 6. I have never heard of this before nor can I find any mention of it in my Ford master parts catalog or any other reference material for that matter. Any thoughts?
First what your reading may be simply a mistake on the part of the writer and or editor
Don’t have the books covering Cougars and this year but through the classic period there were engine codes that used numbers rather than letters. These represented engines offered outside of the US things like very low compression engine that would run on different grades of gasoline and other fuels available in the third world
I remember reading about that, regarding Mustangs. Makes sense that it would have been offered with Cougars as well. Hmm…
CBTN says…
1967 - engine code 3 = 289-2V Low Compression Export (total of 79)
1968 - engine code 6 = 302-2V Low Compression Export (total of 31)
The XR7-G Registry page shows TWO code 6 XR7-G’s produced. Would have to ask the Registrar if either of them have been accounted for.
I did think that perhaps it was an engine code for export cars but thought that it would still be listed in the master parts catalog. I wonder how much they had to lower the compression for the export market, possibly 8 or 8.5 to 1. I think that the stateside 302 2V engines were 9.5 to 1 in 1968.
Ford de Mexico had its own Master Parts Catalog that covered this engine.
There was a Ford of Canada Master Parts Catalog. (the low compression engines were not offered in Canada)
Etc.
Royce, have either of the Low Compression engine XR7-G’s been found / accounted for?
None found so far.
Thank you Royce for using that picture.
The CJ sure looks good sitting next to my Norton.
Mr. John Paradise and his mimeographed news letter. There were a few GTEs & Gs for sale in them. One of his first car shows/swap meets at Seneca lake in NY was where a 68 Mustang fastback roller was for sale with a W in the VIN. Long before Mr. Marti told us the truth. Prompted me to type a letter (on the typewriter) to Ford asking about what cars received a W 427 and how many 68 427 engines were built. Ford’s response was Cougars only.
