Leaf spring bushes

Hi guys,
i may need to replace the rear spring eye bushes,
does the Cougar have different bushes,to the mustang ?
whats the view on polyurethane bushes …?
is there any thing to gain buy separating the leafs and cleaning and painting each individual leaf ?
Currently i have developed differing ride heights from side to side ?

Different size than Mustang. Poly needs to be lubed often. Otherwise you get an annoying squeaking noise.

Have the leafs professionally rebuilt and re - arched. Well worth the cost.

For a street car, stick to rubber bushings - they will absorb road vibration better than polyurethane bushings.

Different ride heights side-to-side may indicate a rusted/broken leaf. The spring/shock plates will need to be removed for inspection of this problem. If the leaves are all intact, you may be able to have them re-arched/re-tempered back to specs by a local spring shop. Many spring shops will add an additional full leaf to increase ride height (and stiffness).

You can choose to keep the original spring stiffness or improve it. The standard 1967-68 Cougar rear leaf springs are very soft (90lbs/in) - which is good for ride comfort but makes them tend to sag in the rear over time. The GT springs were about 130#/in. A good compromise for the early cars is to use the 1969-70 rear springs (110#/in).
