Leaf Spring Paint Stripes

While cleaning the rust and dirt off the rear leaf springs of the 1967 ROC (rusty old cat), I found two paint stripes. Are these assembly or inspection marks? Do they mean anything? Springs are 4 leaf, 2.5 inches wide. Thanks.

They are assembly line marks. On your Cougars build sheet going down the line for rear leafs it would say “blu/org” The line work would know to grab the leaf springs out of inventory with the blue orange marks to be correct for you Cougar build. differnt marks for different springs, like big block vs small block and GT package vs standard. They look pretty well perserved, usually not that bright.

Thanks. Is there anyway to tell if the springs are original to this car? I learned previously that the rear axle came out of a 69 Cougar or Mustang. I don’t know much about this car or its history.

You would need the build sheet to ID that your Cougar got that color code spring, or from a Cougar with the same options as yours. You can also look on the shortest leaf for the Ford part number. But, I don’t know how well the master parts catalog would breakdown the number. Cougar and Mustang springs are different as the Cougar spring is longer.

Thanks for all the great information! I’m going to look for that part number.
