Leather Seat Choices

I’m thinking about treating my ‘70 Base/Decor to some nice leather seats. When the windows are down, the disintegrating foam dust flies everywhere. Otherwise, they’re in pretty mint condition. I’m keeping ‘em (if I ever want to go back to original or the future owner is a purist), so I’ve bought a set of beater seats to have re-foamed and covered.

The idea is to have nice soft seats…maybe even with some extra lumbar support for longer drives, while keeping the general period-correct appearance.

LSeat makes a decent looking leather XR7 cover and I’ve heard that John’s does ‘em custom. Anyone have experience with either…or something else that’s worked for you? General pro-tips on reupholstering to leather are also appreciated!

I bought a set of OEM style leather seat covers from John’s Classic Cougar back around 2000. They fit perfect and still look and feel brand new.

Thanks for the tip, Bob! I’ve read many posts recommending him. Just spoke with John and unfortunately the folks that did upholstery for him have long since retired. He recommended finding a local mom’n’pop shop.

I would recommend finding someone local to do the seats. The ones from Lseat I am not too impressed with.
