As a lowly forum leader, owner actually, who knows Royce personally and for many many years, I know that he has done many installs of these lights. In his career he was routinely responsible for the safety and reliability of a fleet of jet aircraft. That experience caused him to develop an unyielding devotion to detail and doing things correctly. As has been pointed out, your product was not exactly as previously supplied. Your experience might indicate that the lights have changed. I am not asking him to validate your experience. I am asking him to validate the product. The majority of reproduction Cougar parts were developed by me so I have professional interest as well as a concern about what we post here as a recommendation for members cars. As an engineer, I am puzzled by why they would add those parts you cut off and what purpose they could serve. It’s not personal.
Question appears to be directed towards Royce’s experience and not yours.
Bill, it took awhile to think about. Sorry I lashed out. I understand why you asked that.
Thanks for the explanation.
Happy New Year
I have been moderating this thing for the past 15 years and another Cougar forum before that. people bring a lot of passion to this hobby. They may not care about much but they do care about their cars. And even other peoples cars. You’ve made some great posts and obviously bring a lot of knowledge to the board. Grab a beverage and let’s see what pops up next.
I did have to grind one tab off the Octane kits to make them fit right. I did not have to cut off the clips as shown. The Octane kits are more expensive now so I have gone to another supplier that is cheaper and the fit is better but still some mods have to be done.
The 3 alignment tabs seem to be in the right spots. I compared them to the original incandescents I removed but the original tabs are much smaller so they actually fit in the cut outs for them in the buckets.
Here is before I removed the tabs:
I ended up taking everything apart so I could compare the LED to the halogens that came with the kit.
When I was putting things back together is when I decided cut those tabs off. Come to find out now, it’s a common modification to some models.
Royce, thanks for the recommendation. I’m not disappointed, at all.
I bought my 16 y/o son some for his car and one day he came home with an X on each one, with black electrical tape. He said it was a race car, now.
So that gave me an idea that seems like it’s going to work and may please on coming traffic.
I had to get my welding glasses but you can see the low beam has 2 of the 4 LEDs illuminated and they are the 2 that face up. When hi beams are switched all 4 LEDs in each light illuminate.
Here is with and without the tape I’m using for a cutoff line:
