Lifting a 351c suggestions

I am about to lift the old 351c to attach the FMX. Any good recommendations for tools to put this engine on a hoist? These are two options for attaching it that I have found. Any suggestions? My intake in not attached yet to the engine or my headers. Should I attaché those or can they wait?

Just my .02, install the intake and use the plate

I have used a chain bolted to the front of one head and the back of the other. Make sure it is heavy duty enough and use good quality bolts. I have one of the plates that bolts to the carb pad of the intake and like it. I also have one of those load levers. I hate it for heavy loads, one of the tabs broke lifting a engine combo. It broke where it bends. It did cause a bit of a pucker factor. But the other 3 kept it from falling.

I like the carb base lifting plate, I usually make my own. The leveling device might be o-k with a Honda Civic engine. I’ve never seen one last with a full cast iron V8. Just get the plate.

So if I am going to use a flat carburetor lift plate, I need to attach the intake manifold. I have not done this before and this is what I got. Any suggestions or tips? Any good video suggestions on how to properly install the intake manifold?

If your intake is already off, then use a piece of chain. Use the intake bolt holes. Try to keep the chain long. The lower the angle, the harder it pulls on the chain for the same weight object. Also, use a 3rd bolt to make a loop at the center of the chain where the hook will lift. This will prevent the lifted object from rolling to one side. You might be interested to pick up a copy of The Rigger’s Handbook. It will gives plenty of details on how to properly secure and lift objects.

I’ve been contemplating pulling the 351 Cleveland in my car for a few years now but life has gotten in the way-Mom passed, Dad has dementia and had to be moved out of the house, etc. On other cars I’ve used chains bolted to the engine and the beam type load levelers. This time I’m going to use a MAC engine tilter to pull the engine and TKO trans as a unit. This unit bolts to the carb pad on the intake. As I don’t want to screw up my aluminum intakes, I bought an OEM cast iron intake and had it sand blasted. I then painted it top and bottom to keep any debris out of my engines. I’ll swap the intakes back and forth for the R&R procedure.
