Is there a list of options that were offered for the Cougar (1967) with explanation ?
i.e. “Courtesy Light group”, “door edge guards”, …
Maybe from some the sales brochure ?
Wasnt able to find this online, but search terms are pretty generic.
“The Big Book” about Cougars- Don Skinner’s book- AWSOME!
Cascade Cougar Club, reprinted info (By Don Skinner)
Ask here about the details of the items…
Door edge guards are stainless trim that fits on the rear of the door edge so it won’t get damaged opening the door into the wall or other cars.
Avail all years 67-70- Not sure about 71-3
Bill, They were also available on 71-3. My 71 has them.
The places Bill recommended are good sources. The Big Book is sold at West Coast Classic Cougar. Here is a link.
I agree that the Big Book is worth having. Great source of info for gen 1 & the prototypes leading to 67…
Courtesy lights were common in XR7’s models (but may have been a stand alone option in other models). In a hard-top XR7, it would include the 2 lights in the back seat area on the pillars, a map light under the passenger side dash, and a switch to activate the floor lights on the passenger/drivers sides (I believe other models would only activate these with the door switch). That may have also been the lights low on the 2 doors themselves?
You should see a row of 4 buttons in the center of the dash above the radio (at least on a 70). Those without likely have a black-out plate in this area.
Do not know what a soft top would have (likely no rear seat lights as those pillars are gone, but the others may be there?)
I’m not sure about the 1967 / 68 Cougar, but the 1969 Cougar owners handbook ( glove box ) has a listing of all the options to ‘personalize’ your car, available through your local Lincoln-Mercury dealer. I’m sure it’s not an exhaustive list ( and a lot of options are added and deleted during the model year ), but the list for the 1969 is quite extensive ( litter baskets, CB-radios, TV’s, door edge guards, mats, etc. ). Some other CCC members could check their 1967 / 68 owners handbooks ?
Factory options and dealer accessories are two very different things. Which are you looking for? If factory options, Kevin Marti’s Cougar by the Numbers book lists all factory options along with production numbers by body code. Some factory brochures list pre-production options which didn’t necessarily make it into production.
Thanks - exactly what i was looking for. Does this exist as a PDF somewhere ? It’s just out of curiosity really as i find these amusing in general, i see WCCC has one for sale but I’m not interested enough to pay $60 for it.
I’ll look into the big book though, sounds interesting.
I would add that, in some years, there were certain items that were optional for a portion of the year, or not widely publicized.
For example, according to some original L-M pricing information I have, it was possible to order rocker panel moldings for a standard Cougar without the Décor Group.
I had a '67 standard for which I had the original window sticker. A Convenience Group was called out. After a conversation with Kevin Marti, he confirmed some details about the option, including the content: it was the light group and the rear armrests from the XR-7, along with a clock, and was released on 12/30/66. And he shared the fact that 3,989 cars were so equipped. A friend happens to have another.
