List your top 10 Cougars 67 through 73

Garey Maib’s 67 Standard Restomod. Cinnamon Frost/Saddle
My 69 XR 7. Restomod-ish Yellow/Saddle.
69 XR 7 Convertible. Medium Jade/White.
Barry Yarnell’s 70 XR 7 Hardtop. Dark green, black vinyl top/Tobacco interior.
69 XR 7 Convertible. Calypso coral/white.
71 XR 7 hardtop. Ginger/ginger.
67 standard hardtop. Light yellow/saddle.

Here is my list in mostly no particular order.

'68 R-code XR7 GT, C6, 3.50 trac lock, ss wheels, Cardinal Red/Parchment
'68 GT-E XR7 427 with sunroof, tilt, pdb, ps, console, ss wheels, 3.50 trac lock Caribbean blue/light aqua
'68 GT-E XR7 R-code 4-speed tilt, pdb, ps, am/fm, console, ss wheels, 3.50 trac lock Onyx Black/ red interior
The factory pink XR7G. Because it would probably stop traffic and you’d never see another one.
1969 Boss 429. I’d restore it to pre-race (no stickers) condition.
1968 j-code XR7, 4-speed, a/c, tilt, pdb, ps, console, ss wheels, 3.25 trac lock, Calypso Coral, parchment interior (daily driver)
1970 Eliminator 428SCJ 4-speed, sunroof (were there any SCJ sunroof cars built?) loaded up w/ options, Competition Blue, black Houndstooth interior.
1970 XR7 428 CJ a/c, auto, Yellow Metalic/Medium Ginger houndstooth interior/houndstooth top. (I seriously doubt any houdstooth 428s were made, but it would be a fun sleeper)
1970 Convertible XR7 428 SCJ Ram-Air 4-speed, grabber green/white interior and top

I’m lucky to own one of my dream Cougars.

Awww, shucks.

However, I’d have to agree with most of that list. Only things I would change are noted above…

Thanks Mark, come & get it. Ashamed to say I’ve only had it out once this year.

#1 1962 Ford Cougar 406
#2 1968 XR7-S
#3 Dyno Don’s Boss 429
#4 Dyno Don’s cammer Cougar funny car
#5 One of the Bud Moore built road race Cougars
#6 Coca Cola give away Cougar
#7 1969 prototype Streeper Eliminator
#8 Black 70 Boss Eliminator
#9 Dan Gurney triple black G he refused from Ford
#10 All the ones in my garage.

I might have bent the guide lines a little on a few of my choices.

Thanks, Mark! I miss that car, but selling it was the right decision at the time. I just wish the new owner would bring it out to some of the bigger Cougar events like Carlisle so Cougar folks who’ve never seen it could check it out. When I transferred ownership of CatVert, I also introduced Dick to Ken Gucker, who is now CatVert’s personal physician, so to speak. With Ken’s help, Dick has made a great car even better, so it’s really a shame he doesn’t show it off.

There are so many.
First three come to mind are.
An orange 68 XR-7 out of Ohio.
A 70 comp blue Eliminator vert out of California.
And a 67 maroon XR-7 out of Oregon.

Oh, that car never gets off the trailer…

Unfortunately, I know the same feeling.

Yer killing me smalls!!! I’m gonna take it out this weekend to the So. Cal monthly meeting. On the trailer of coarse!!!

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I rest my case, yer honor…

1968 GTE in Wellington Blue with a parchment interior, 427, sunroof, tilt, t-lok, console, cruise control, rear defog, power antennae, AM/FM, dealer issued mud flaps, head rests AND the Philco TV.

I’d put a WABX rocks Detroit bumper sticker on it, too.

I was thinking about this, and I think that maybe the best overall Cougar might be a '71 XR-7 GT 351 C 4V with every available option, except the vinyl top. Sunroof, C6, PDB, PS, AC, PW, Power drivers seat, tilt, rear window defog, AM FM Stereo 8 Track, etc. The GT came with front and rear sway bars, variable ratio power steering, competition cooling package and also a bigger alternator and battery.

I think this would be a car that you could drive cross country, very comfortably. It has a reduced level of smog stuff and still runs very well. I would love to have something like this to try to drive to every Cougar show in the nation.

Pick one up soon Bill, so you can drive it to the 50th celebration in Carlisle!

I’ve recently owned a 1997 30th year car that was ordered by a ford executive. It was loaded…sunroof, full leather, a burgundy car with saddle interior. 18,000 miles and still smelled new. 4.6L of course. It was the last of the rear wheel drive cars. Pure joy as a daily driver.
