The factory pink XR7G. Because it would probably stop traffic and you’d never see another one.
1969 Boss 429. I’d restore it to pre-race (no stickers) condition.
1968 j-code XR7, 4-speed, a/c, tilt, pdb, ps, console, ss wheels, 3.25 trac lock, Calypso Coral, parchment interior (daily driver)
1970 Eliminator 428SCJ 4-speed, sunroof (were there any SCJ sunroof cars built?) loaded up w/ options, Competition Blue, black Houndstooth interior.
1970 XR7 428 CJ a/c, auto, Yellow Metalic/Medium Ginger houndstooth interior/houndstooth top. (I seriously doubt any houdstooth 428s were made, but it would be a fun sleeper)

I might have bent the guide lines a little on a few of my choices.
Thanks, Mark! I miss that car, but selling it was the right decision at the time. I just wish the new owner would bring it out to some of the bigger Cougar events like Carlisle so Cougar folks who’ve never seen it could check it out. When I transferred ownership of CatVert, I also introduced Dick to Ken Gucker, who is now CatVert’s personal physician, so to speak. With Ken’s help, Dick has made a great car even better, so it’s really a shame he doesn’t show it off.
There are so many.
First three come to mind are.
An orange 68 XR-7 out of Ohio.
A 70 comp blue Eliminator vert out of California.
And a 67 maroon XR-7 out of Oregon.
1968 GTE in Wellington Blue with a parchment interior, 427, sunroof, tilt, t-lok, console, cruise control, rear defog, power antennae, AM/FM, dealer issued mud flaps, head rests AND the Philco TV.
I’d put a WABX rocks Detroit bumper sticker on it, too.
I was thinking about this, and I think that maybe the best overall Cougar might be a '71 XR-7 GT 351 C 4V with every available option, except the vinyl top. Sunroof, C6, PDB, PS, AC, PW, Power drivers seat, tilt, rear window defog, AM FM Stereo 8 Track, etc. The GT came with front and rear sway bars, variable ratio power steering, competition cooling package and also a bigger alternator and battery.
I think this would be a car that you could drive cross country, very comfortably. It has a reduced level of smog stuff and still runs very well. I would love to have something like this to try to drive to every Cougar show in the nation.

1968 Bright blue / parchment plain jane cougar. My first car that my parents bought new.
I’ve recently owned a 1997 30th year car that was ordered by a ford executive. It was loaded…sunroof, full leather, a burgundy car with saddle interior. 18,000 miles and still smelled new. 4.6L of course. It was the last of the rear wheel drive cars. Pure joy as a daily driver.
1: Scott Fergusons XR7 G,

7: Fast Eddies Air Lift Rattler.
