Looking for a 1967 or 1968 Cougar

Hello Classic Cougar Community! I’m looking to buy a (ready-to-drive) 1967 or 1968 Cougar with AC (I live in South Florida). An XR7 is okay, but I am no crazy about Vinyl tops. Given a choice, I’d take blue, black, white, green, red or silver (sorry, not Gold or Yellow). Anyway, Hopefully, my ‘wish’ list is not too idealistic as I understand the limited pool of cars.

Are you looking for a project or ready to drive?

Need more info on what you want.

Ready to drive (daily, ~15 miles a day) Note: I’ve updated my original post.

I may have what you are looking for,

I live in Ellijay Georgia and have decided to sell my classic cougar. 843-826-6363

So, I went to see this Cougar in Daytona: [https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1967/mercury/cougar/101928749]

I couldn’t test drive it, because they don’t allow that on Saturdays. :frowning: The exterior looks great (body, undercarriage), but the interior needs work, lots of work.

  • The seat (foam) cushions are rotten (crumbling, chunks under the seats). Also, I couldn’t slide the driver seat at all.

  • Every window labors to roll up or down, and the back passenger quarter window barely works at all.

  • The doors sound rough when opening – scrapping like they need grease. And one has to wrestle with the door handle button to open them.

  • The front dash is severely worn, cracked and loose as are the center console and antenna.

  • The inside trim above the window isn’t very tight against the headliner.

This car is pretty to look at, but IMO, this car needs more love inside: new seats, dash face, window regulators? Yet, it had nice carpet

I know, I know, its an old car and I can’t expect perfection. Still, to be an enjoyable daily-driver, I think one would need to consider restoring these parts.

For the record, the sales person was courteous and professional and their showroom is something to see. Overall, the experience was enjoyable. Importantly, everything mentioned in the video is true and fair, but little was mentioned about the interior other than the superficial tear the in the driver seat, steering wheel and headliner.

Finally, I’m still considering this car, but I’d like to hear some estimates (opinions?) as to what it would cost to replace the things I mentioned above.

The dealer has a nice Youtube video of this car which I wish every dealer took the time to thoroughly document the car they are selling.

I see they offer free shipping so you know that is built into the price.

The price is high considering its an automatic with a 289 engine. I think it’s a solid car and the floor pans appear to have been replaced at one time.

I can’t speak to all the costs of your all your concerns but the foam replacement for the seats are about $100 each.

I don’t think the rest of your concerns are deal breakers but can be used to get the price down.

This video covers the crumbly foam in the seats.

Even though the dealer provided a driving video you still need to drive it. Listen to the engine and ensure all gauges, lights and AC work.

I think this car is in the $25k range if everything is working as shown in the video.

Thanks!

Apparently they just sold it, but I’m with you in that I don’t think it was worth $39K

Still looking for that elusive 67 Cougar–daily driver, automatic w/AC (crossing-fingers)

Still looking?
I have a 67 Blue with white interior. Wanted $24k but paint issues. Looking for $18k.

I have more pics. At work now but thought I’d reach out while I could. Thanks.

Dan

Yes, I’m still looking.

Can you provide a description, price, location?

As I wrote this my son was upset that we were selling the car. I may not sell it but I felt I needed to follow up with the specs. Let me know if you may be interested. I figured the paint could be a deterrent.

Which is it? 24 or 18?

You have an e-mail to send the pics? I have a video of it running and the interior. I was offered $30k over the summer. I should have taken it then before the paint issue. So of course I want $24k and you want $18k. Perhaps we could agree in the middle. Fellow car enthusiast said I was nuts to get rid of the car and nuts to sell it that low. Ha!
The damn car is beautiful.

I couldn’t open the video link, it’s on your mobile, please send them to: gpuchtel@comcast.net

Check this one out. No AC but I think it’s worth a look.

I posted the listing to this site a few days ago.
