I have a an '68 XR7 X Code 390.
I know this is probably an impossibles Ask.
Looking for a C8WF-A
Hope someone in the community can help.
To show as original? Honestly, there are some really great 2v aftermarket carbs if you aren’t looking for show points. I have a 2v Holley Avenger on my 69 351W with under 2k miles that I am about to swap for a Summit Racing 4v and an Edelbrock aluminum manifold. Here’s a link to her running in 2022 when it was installed.Holley 500 cfm 2V Avenger Carburetor
Thank you for the reply. Sweet '69 video ;D
Agree there are some great aftermarket Carbs.
Yes, the goal is to build a junior/senior winner and it has been a lengthy process.
Down to the final tweaks.
The current Autolite 2100 Carb is close, but not a C8WF-A.
I would be OK running the current carb, but it has been rebuilt twice and is giving idling issues.
It is hard to diagnose since it idles perfectly at times and other times is a rough idle.
Acceleration is spot on.
It may work itself out given time and a few miles, but I think it needs to be sorted.
I have located a C8AF-AN from a ’68 LTD with a C6, but the linkage is different.
390 engine is rebuilt & healthy, hoses & gaskets are new and triple checked for issues = none detected at this point.
Thanks again!
If you are talking AACA Junior and Senior judging they do not remove your air cleaner to check what’s under there. If your fuel line is routed correctly you should be good to go. I also am running Holley 500 two barrel. It’s a great carb.
Storkman - Thanks for the pointer for AACA judging.
Might end up going the Holley route too.
The 69 351w Autolite is 1.23 venturi which is the 2nd biggest 2100 carb. The biggest is a 1.33 which is hard to find. Not sure if the X-code Cougars had the 1.33.
Based on the limited research out there, it appears the X Code is a 1.23 Venturi
Call Steve at Steve’s Carburetor
Lyndhurst, NJ. He will definitely have a correct Autolite 2100 for you. He ships worldwide I highly recommend him.
This may not apply, if not I apologize - I am not particularly a parts #s expert. I had an X code G for many years and this is the 2v carb I had stashed away in the parts I had been collecting for the car. This carb was not original to my car, but I was told it was correct (date not withstanding). It went with the car when I sold it.
In any event, just incase it helps in some way, here is a pic I took of it.
Classy68, are you by chance in the Richmond VA area?
- Phillip
Phillip,
Been away and sorry for the late response.
Yes, I am in the Richmond area.
Thank you for the carb information.
Your C80F-K appears to be correct for the X Code Mustang & Cougar, but is also a very rare carb.
Gives me a possibility to search for an alternative 2100.
Wonder if your G buyer still has this carb?
Thank you again
The buyer of my X code G installed the carb and sold the car on I believe.
I found that carb up at Carlisle several years ago.
I am up in Hanover. There is a Cougar/Mustang wrecking yard not far from me, Old Dominion Mustang & Camaro. It is a long shot but you could try looking there. Let me know if you do go and I’ll meet you there - I always love poking around that place!
Oh, and I’m the Prez of the Delmarva Cougar Club - saw your inquiry about the carb on our email list.
