Hi everyone,
I’ve located a 69 triple black convertible with the S code 390. It appears to be a nicely optioned and restored car. However, we all know looks can be deceiving. It’s located at https://www.carsrememberwhen.com/inventory Has anyone had any experience with these people? Is anyone familiar with this car? I’ve watched all of Don Rushes videos to learn as much about these cars as possible.
Gorgeous Cougar! It definitely checks all my boxes, and you couldn’t do that level of restoration for what they are asking. My biggest concern would be to make sure rust wasn’t just covered up with body putty in the restoration. And hopefully it comes with paperwork or pics showing at least some of its history. You can probably find somebody on here from CO willing to look at it with you. Minor stuff that is easy to fix - no spare, bad strut arm bushing, wish it had original AM 8 track. Good luck!
Edit - the drivers side fender/hood/grill alignment is a bit wonky, and turn signal lamp is not straight. Look closely in that area for collision repair evidence. Torque boxes underneath don’t look rusty and have the usual dents from jacking on them - good evidence they are original and haven’t been replaced.
I know this Cat. It was restored by Eddie. I helped get the turnsignals working & a few other things about 5 years ago.
Hi !
Watch this video before making the purchase. https://youtu.be/1wNmvDyoTO8?si=RJr6cvXmuStyXme8
Mike,
Thank you for sending over the link. It is eye opening how the bad actors prey upon people who just want to own these cars for fun and nostalgia. Buyer beware!
Rob
Thank you! I noticed those items too.
Thank you. Is Eddie a member here? I would love to pick his brain on this one. From what you can recall is this a good one?
Cougar Bill, is that Loris & Eddie’s shop there in Englewood that restored this Cat? Looks very nicely done!
I’m not sure about Loris? Eddie was/is a chain smoker. Had to close up shop due to COPID. A new shop is now run by some mustang guy.
I know nothing about the restoration(paint, body, ect). I was an expensive one though, as the owner & wife both told me about the $$$.
Yeah, I can’t imagine they have less than six figures into that car for a restoration that correct and complete - assuming it really is that good.
Buyer beware
A pair of vise grips?
someone did a lot of “detailing” on the rear end housing, but it looks like they scratched it up using a floor jack.
Need I say more?
Not even the correct power window switch bezels
Pretty poor restoration in my view.
First glance it looks great. With some of the issues that were pointed out I would definitely look at this vehicle in person with a mechanic. It’s a small out of pocket expense when spending $60K.
Hi!
Anyway for me the this is too expensive for a 1969 Cougar convertible, the value of this model should be around $40 000 MAXIMUM for A1 car.
Just my opinion
Hey….maybe it’s just my eyes getting older but it appears to me the front end lines between the hood and grill and between the grill sections/headlight doors and the grill/front fender spacing look off….as does the alignment of the convertible top and front window chrome trim. May or may not indicate previous trauma or just sloppy reassembly but at the very least is worth considering In negotiating a price if you get that far……good luck!
No spare tire?
In general, it’s well done. I have the same cat in burnt orange metallic (351W) and also have well over 6 figures in it and know I’ll never get my $ back out of it as the early post was right about it hitting about $40K for a really well-done car that is not especially rare like a CJ or other rare Eliminator.
Do I wish it was worth more? Sure, but it’s reality that it isn’t a $60K cat unless it’s what you MUST have, if if the case, grab it!
Mine was worth it to me.
