Not a Cougar story, but I fired up the softail, put my wife on the back and rode up to Dillard, GA by way of Athens to hook up with my brother in law. We spent about 10 hrs including dinner and round trip. We also stopped at Tellulah Gorge. For those who are old enough, it’s where John Voight did the scene in Deliverance where he scored the cliff and shot one of the hillbilly rapists ala Rambo (bow and arrow). Wish I had brought my camera, and will definitely be making another trip in the Cougar this fall when the leaves turn.
I’ve went whitewater rafting down the Chattooga river three times that deliverance was filmed on. Nice scenic river as there is no development with in a quarter mile on the river. Some good class IV & V rapids on the lower section. Dumped the raft every time on the lower section. The deliverance film crew also lost camera equipment filming the movie on that section of the river.
Did anyone tell you you had a pretty mouth?
I can paddle real fast when I hear Banjo music
Actually, stopped and had lunch at the creek where they filmed that scene.
LOL! I got a t-shirt from Helen, GA that said “PADDLE FASTER!! I HEAR BANJO MUSIC!” Always got a compliment from other people or a laugh whenever I wore it. I don’t think Ned Beatty’s career was ever the same after that movie. There are times I wish I could travel back to see what rural GA looked like back then. Unfortunately, it seems that every parcel of undeveloped land is getting sold and turned into strip malls that end up empty. Kind of crazy, but they seem to think that an unsellable strip mall is somehow more attractive than the natural landscape. Hell, they won’t even go twenty years before they build a new stadium for their teams (Falcons, Braves). There is no sense of real tradition down here.
