I have been looking to replace my XR7 center console with something different. Reasons, clock was big and took up all the space in the pocket and the padded base was unusable for daily driving.
I also prefer to make things myself opposed to buying aftermarket.
So I am in the process of making a new one and here is the progress I have made.

I used a 67 standard console. It has the door inplace of the clock. Good storage & looks good too.
Cup holders, that is what all older cars are with out. If I was to make my own center console that would be the number one purpose. I have the door with the storage but your not going to put your Route 44 Coke in the there when you leave Sonic. I am not going to hold it between my legs even if it had a automatic. I have the vinyl pad from the decore group. I might make a cup holder to replace that pad.
