So, I found a dual point Mallory, and it seems mostly complete, other than no cap. I’m planning on upgrading to a pertronix for this one as well ( I have another engine that I did this on, that hasn’t started yet-)
But my question is,there is no #1 indicated on the cap so how do you set it in the block? It still has the capacitor on the side, but how do you orient the body of the distributor, in the block? The only thing that could indicate any kind of “direction” is the small stud, that the cap sits down on.
There is no vacuum advance because it is a mechanical advance. That type uses centrifugal force and different size weights inside to advance the breaker plate.
When installing a distributor into a block, it doesn’t really matter where the rotor is facing if starting from scratch. Use the terminal the rotor is pointing at on the cap as #1, assuming when you stab, it the timing marks are lined up and at TDC. The only concern is the clearance of the condenser making sure you can rotate the housing when installed.
I’ve been using a Mallory duel point since summer of 1981. Drove it today.
