Master Cylinder Install

Hey guy’s I’ve had problems with my power brakes for a while now and I’ve finally taken the booster and master out to get at my proportioning valve which will be rebuilt.my question is when you check the push rod length from the booster to the master cylinder should you apply vacuum to the booster to check the length or is it done without vacuum being applied?

Thanks

Terry

w/o There is a template/ guide that I copied years ago.

390XR7: how much of a project was it to get the master cylinder and booster out? I’m curious because mine has to come out to be inspected/repaired/replaced. Any tips you learned in the process?

Thanks Cougar Bill, got all my parts together just need to find time to rebuild the porportioning valve.
Yorgle-the removal was actually fairly easy.I took it out as a whole unit and I went up and over the shock tower, brace was removed.I was thinking I would have to jack up the drivers side of the engine but it came out easy.hopefully it all goes in just as easy.found out my pushrod length was short, probably why I had such lousy brakes.hoping after this it will stop on a dime.
