Matt Slay Memorial Arrangements

Friends,
It is with sad eyes and a heavy heart that I write this note. I have been at a loss for words since I received the news Sunday morning that Matt has passed. It had been a hard two weeks that Matt had been in the hospital, up until the past two weeks we spoke a few times a week, mainly I listened as no words seemed to come out as we chatted about things that seemed to be important, not knowing that one of the conversations would be our last. Endless pocket-dials over the past few months as his condition turned to the worst.

I was hopeful that this email would not have to be sent and that if I did not send an email maybe it would not be true.

My thoughts are to Alicia and Sydney, but to us all as he was loved by so many and will be missed by more than he will ever know.

This is such horrible news. Your tribute, Gavin, shows what a great friend Matt was to all he met. I’m glad I had the pleasure of knowing him.

Gavin, (all Matt’s friends)
Sorry for your loss. Even though I didn’t know Matt, or anything about him, it is obvious from the photos he was full of joy, had a beautiful family, and loved Cougars. No doubt he will be missed by many!
David

Such a great guy and besides being a terrific person Matt was a huge boon to the CCOA and the Classic Cougar Community.

I’m so glad I got to meet him - so much energy and enthusiasm for our classic cats.

His loss leaves a big hole in our hobby.

Thanks for flying the flag at his service Gavin. Let me know if there is anything I can do for Matt’s family.

We are all going to miss Matt. Good bye dear friend.

Our continued prayers go out to the Slay family.

This is one of those that seems impossible. Matt was so full of life and good will. Our world is a lesser place with his absence.

May I suggest at the time of Matt’s memorial this Saturday at 11:00 am Dallas time (12:00 East, 9:00 Pacific) that we all
start and rev our Cougars in tribute to Matt, and take our families out for a ride. As Gavin said, be sure to let them know
we love them and also why we are doing this. If your car doesn’t run, then perhaps take a silent moment beside your car.
And if you are a person of faith, prayers for Matt’s wife, daughter, family and friends.

Cougar people are among the nicest, well-meaning people I know, and we have lost one of our very best. Godspeed, Matt.

If you spent just a few hours with Matt he felt like an old friend. Hard to comprehend. Rest in peace my friend.

Very sad news. I can’t add much to what’s already been said so well by others. I had the chance to meet Matt and his family on a few occasions at shows, and he was one of the nicest, most welcoming people I’ve met. I remember wandering around at the 2015 East Coast nationals, not really knowing many people, and he invited me to eat lunch with him & his family. I felt immediately at home with them. He was obviously super enthusiastic about the Cougar hobby and made it that much better for everyone. He’ll be missed!

Rest in peace Matt, sending prayers for your family.

After sharing some time in the shade under an umbrella in Northville, MI last Summer, it was obvious what a great family Matt’s is…

I am so sad to have heard this news this week, and my heart goes out to his Family, loved ones and friends. He was so instrumental in so much for the club and Cougar Community and I know Gavin has spent so much time this past few months… Matt’s spirit and good nature was just inspirational.

Damn. That stinks. I was priviledged to meet Matt and his family at the Dearborn 50th show and got to have dinner with them and hang out some.
Great guy, great family. Very sorry to hear of his passing, and my heart goes out to his family :frowning:

Gone way too young. Matt was an amazing person, magnetic personality who was a calming person making all he met feel like family. He will be missed in our community.

Awesome guy. Great family. Words can not describe the loss many of us here are experiencing.

A sad day for our community

It is hard to believe that Matt is really gone.

I am so torn up over this. I can’t get over how young he was. His daughter and wife are great people.

I haven’t stopped thinking about them since I heard.

Still seems like a dream…he was way too young to leave already. This Saturday his university (and mine) will be doing a tribute service to him and other students who passed away. It’s a very somber ceremony but I will be there to answer the roll call for him when they call his name. I’m going to miss this guy…RIP Matt
