Mecum Kissimme Florida

Not sure if anyone has watched the latest Mecum auction in Kissimmee Florida. The auction has a lot of Ford and Mercury products going across the block. So far I have watched a day and a half and have seen, 70 Cougar XR-7 HT, 2 69 Torino 428 Cobra Jets, 69 Cyclone Spoiler 351, 70 Grabber Maverick, 84 SVO Mustang, 70 Ranchchero GT. They even have AMC covered with a nice AMX. Great to see there are more muscle car than Camaros’s, Chevelles and Corvettes.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have to make sure I catch some of it.

Been watching a lot of it. Even during the day with streaming video on the smart phone (don’t tell the boss! Actually more like listening not watching) The Mecum auction has had some really good buys and some realistic prices. If I ever actually go to an auction to buy one (not likely I like doing my own stuff) , it will be a mecum auction.

The prices seem good for what I have seen so far. I was shocked when one of the 69 Torino’s with a 428cj went for 19,500. The Grabber Maverick went for 26,500. They were both great looking cars but 26.5k for a Maverick, wow! The Cougar was listed as a 69 but it was clearly a 70. It went for somewhere around 9k. Good prices but like always the heavy hitters come on the weekend. Can’t wait to watch more, DVR is set.

I had a hard time believing Mecum could incorrectly identify that gold XR7 1970 bodied Cougar as a 1969 so I looked at the detailed description for the car and low and behold the 1970 title for the car was voided. Don’t understand why a seller would bring an untitled car to auction. Thinking this car might be a 1969 rebodied as a 1970. Probably the reason it didn’t sell. I sure liked the number ($70k) for the 1970 Eliminator this afternoon. Noticed a number of things that could make even better though.

I figured it might have been something like that with the 69/70 Cougar. I enjoy the Mecum auctions but I have noticed mistakes. I guess that happens, the announcers can’t know every car fact. I did laugh when the “Ford” guy, Steve I think is his name said they restomoded the 1984 Mustang SVO because it didn’t have flush mount headlights. I’m a Ford guy and knew the SVO didn’t have flush headlights till 85 1/2. It was the only Mustang to carry a 1/2 model year designation since 64 1/2. He said something along the lines of the XR-7 being the Cougar’s top performance package.

Was it me or was that grabber green not as grabber as it should be? I had a grabber green 71 Mach and it seemed to be quite a but brighter of a green than that. Or was the hue slightly lighter on the 70 cougars?

Looked good on my TV. Not as good as it would look in my garage.

I was hoping to see the Dyno Don cammer Maverick lot S219 cross the block but they cut to commercial. Came back at S220 Dragonsanke cobra. Oh well. Some very nice cars though and numbers seem to be all over the charts. Too many commercials and even the live stream had commercials.

I agree that the color on the 70 Eliminator was correct. The car really looked great under those lights. Wished they would have put the front air dam on that car. Is the new owner a visitor or member on this forum? If so, let’s hear from you.

What day did the Eliminator cross the block? I have watched up till Fridays auction. I usually watch them on DVR before and after work. I have enjoyed what I have seen so far. I kind of lean towards Mecum’s style of auction compared to BJ. I think the lightning and camera views are better. BJ always seems dark to me but the do have the chassis camera view, which I like.

The Eliminator crossed the block Saturday approx. 4:00pm (est) 70k

Ok I finally saw the Eliminator cross the auction block. Looked great! $70k was a great price. Now to be picky again, Steven Cox said he waited two days for it to make it to the block. If that was true (and him being a Ford guy) he would have known the hood scoop was functional not “faux”.
