Members Thoughts on this 1967 S code GT

I’ve come across this 67 S code GT for sale in Washington state… does anyone know anything about it or can give any advise on it?

I would ask for additional photos of the trunk without the carpet if possible. Everything appears nice but if I were to nitpick, the driver’s side front fender where it aligns with the front driver’s side headlight cover is slightly off. Something there may need just a slight adjustment but I’m no expert.

Thank you for pointing that out and asking for the carpet in the trunk to be pulled up to have a better look at the trunk floors.

This is a very nice looking Cougar but looking at the front end in images 7842 and compared to image 7841, the side shown in 7842 has considerable amount of rust compared to 7841. The coil spring shows significant rust as well as the coil spring cover. At this price, I wouldn’t expect this but its not my money.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Coach Jack

I know this Cougar. I work part time for Mainly Muscle car as there parts guy. It is not a restored car. I think the Brown hew that Coach Jack sees is due to the car being parked next to a Brown wall and reflecting that. But I’ll look next Tuesday when I go in next. Tim and Mike will take more pictures for you. For the most part what I can say is this is a nice driver GT.

Just seeing the condition of the torque boxes and trunk dropoffs sold me on it. It’s looks like a very nice driver car as badcatt says. No used car lot detail job underneath, just an honest car showing 55+ years of age. The thermactor system and dealer plate frame are good to have on hand.

are those holes in the rear wheel wells?
rebuilt engine , trans…GT blk on blk. worth 30K any day of the week IMO. really comes down to is this what you are looking for, that’s worth the extra 5K

Looks pretty nice. Isn’t that fan shroud the one that Shelby guys lose their minds about?

I’ve spoken to Tim on the phone already and he said for me to look over the pictures and anything else of interest let him know and he’ll get better pictures if needed… I would appreciate you giving me you’re honest opinion on the Cougar… I’m not exactly close by as I’m on the east coast

Good eye coachJack

I agree what you see is what you get and nothing is covered up

What holes are you talking about in the rear wheel wells?

I noticed that fan shroud

sorry, didn’t have my bifocals on. I think its a bracket on each side by the frame rail.

I took a look at some areas on this Cougar today. First I asked about the trunk carpet. It is glued in place, so I did not take any pictures there.

Drivers side spring, spring cover and upper control arm. Not rusty, but a little dirty

D.S.

P.S.

D.S. lower control are, it is a replacement and has surface rust on it. Note P.S. lower control are is the same. Personally I see this as a minor item. If I has done the replacement I most likely would have detailed it and clear coated the natural areas.

D.S. Strut area has ATF on it. So I think the P.S. pump has a leak.

D.S. Spring cover detail.

D.S. some slight surface rust on the torque box.

Front area of the D.S. rear wheel house. It looks like dirt when looking in person. But…

Rear of the D.S. rear wheel house. Some dirt.

I did notice that a lot of the rubber is failing, Thisis the P.S. door window seal. The roof rail seals are also getting hard and failing. This is not a real expensive repair that most could do them selves.

Dash pad is OK, but warped near the ends.

P.S. Spring cover, spring and upper control are. Note the Red hue is due to a Poppy Red 65 Mustang parked next to this car. Again the lower arm has surface rust.

I did not rust under the battery tray. This is a common problem with both Mustangs and Cougar. I have repaired several by cutting the rusted section out of the apron and making a patch panel from a reproduction apron and welding that section in. But keeping most of the original apron intact.

This is where the P.S front fender and the front valance bolt together. Not the best of fit and finish. But is down low.

I think the windshield is a replacement. Not surprising in a 57 year old car.

I noticed that the pin striping has been polished off in many areas. Not the reflection of the Poppy Red Mustang.

I hope this helps some. I personally thing this is a good driver quality car that can be made better with some time and effort.

As others have said this appears to be a pretty decent and solid car. I do see a few things though that should be corrected.

As posted earlier the left front fender does not look to be properly aligned. If you look closely you can see that the gap between the bottom of the extension and the top of the bumper is much larger on the left side than on the right side. It might just be hitting on the rubber bumper filler. It will take a fair amount of work but it might just need to be realigned.

There are a few things missing. Both the left and right rear interior trim panels are missing their front upper corner trim pieces. Other missing parts, the right door bumpers, hood to cowl seal, radiator support rubber seal, center grille hood bumper, windshield washer T fitting, taillight protectors, right fender to bumper bracket brace. It looks like the screws are missing from the upper corners of the door panels.

Some other points. It has a wrong rivot on the door data plate, the windshield washer bottle is broken, the left roofrail weatherstip is damaged and some of it is missing, the right roofrail windlace looks to be short at the rear and not properly attached above the door, the left back up light wiring harness is not properly installed into the drop off panel, it looks like something has been added to the left front side of the console (just above the gas peddle area), there is a section of rubber hose in the one transmission line which might be the source of the leak that badcatt mentioned. Since badcatt posted a photo of the windshield that is a replacement. The original would have a Carlite logo at the center bottom area.

Now none of the items that have listed would be deal breaker as most are fixable. These points though could be used to bring the price down some though for anyone seriously considering this car. When I see little things like this that would be so easy to fix and not very expensive I have to question how any other work was done on the car. Before I would drop 35K on it I would want an up close and personal inspection to verify its condition.

Thank you badcatt for personally looking at the Cougar and taking the time to post all the pictures… very much appreciate and give me a better idea about this Cougar being across the country and north of the border.

Thank you Randy for pointing out all you did and your thoughts… I’m not exactly close to go look at this Cougar as I’m on the other side of the country and north of the border… for their asking price and what needs to be done I’m thinking its a $30K car.

No problem. I understand that you may not be able to personally do an inspection. There are people out there though who do offer that as a service for a fee. It would be cheaper to spend some cash on a paid inspection rather than a big pile of cash for the car and then not receive what you were expecting.

All the things that others and I have pointed out about the car could be used to help bring the final price down.

My nitpick is the reproduction front seat covers don’t look very good and the steering wheel has a few cracks which may not be restorable. The glued in trunk carpet is probably the most concerning
