"Mercury" rear deck script

I am hoping one or more of you can help me. I realized tonight that somewhere along the line the holes have been filled on the rear deck (trunk lid) where the “Mercury” script goes. WT*!? How did I never notice that!? Anyway, I need a good measurement of EXACTLY where this emblem should be. I am sure that at least three of you will give me good measurements by Saturday morning…right?

thanks in advance guys!

Grant

Here you go:
3-9/16"
5-5/16"
1-1/2"
6-9/16"
Anything else you need?!? LOL!

We might need a bit more info, you know?
-Is this indeed a 68?
-Is the trunk lid moulding installed?
-Do you have a tailor’s tape measure (you know, the flexible yellow cloth thingy)?
-Do you have a t-square?
-What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen sparrow?
-You want it when?!?

Just a distance from the right edge of the deck lid to the end ot the Y in Mercury, and then a distance from the bottom lip of the deck (with or without the trim moulding, but preferably without) to the bottom of the script.

By the way, there are too many variables involved to get a good constant reading on the velocity of said sparrow…first off you didn’t specify drake or hen.

If I remember correctly WCCC has a press on adhesive backed script that looks exactly like the original. No holes would be required.

On my 68, the bottom of the script is 3/4" from the top edge of the deck molding and the rightmost edge of the “Y” is 5/8" from the right edge of the trunk lid.

Would that be an African or European swallow?

I thought so too…I actually got back up out of bed last night and went to find out. It turns out that the WCCC website only shows the Cougar script with the adhesive back…not the Mercury

The memory is the first to go!!! We’re all thankful for that!!! LOL

Dude, you are a serious Cougaraholic…seek help (and NOT from WCCC!!!)

Agree on the 3/4" from top edge of moulding, but I measure rightmost edge of “y” at 11/16" from right edge of trunk lid. Sorry, just being ARA (anal-retentive-accurate).
As to the question of African or European: Huh? What? AAAAAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh…LOL! Really stupid movie but I love it.

So, here’s what I’ve got. Measurements were taken from a 67 with the trunk lid moulding removed, and a 68 with the trunk lid moulding installed. YMMV:

Top of trunk moulding to bottom of script 3/4"
Bottom of trunk lip to bottom of script 2-5/16 to 2-1/4" (2-5/16" under the ‘e’ ,2-1/4" under the ‘r’)

Hole 1) Lower M pin
Hole 2) Upper M pin
Hole 3) Lower C pin
Hole 4) Middle Y pin

Hole 1) 6-9/16" from right side of trunk lid
15/16" up from top of moulding
2-3/16" up from bottom of trunk lip

Hole 2) 5-5/16" from right side of trunk lid
1-13/16" up from top of moulding
3-3/8" up from bottom of trunk lip

Hole 3) 3-9/16" from right side of trunk lid
15/16" up from top of moulding
2-3/16" up from bottom of trunk lip

Hole 4) 1-1/2" from right side of trunk
3/4" up from top of moulding
2-1/4" up from bottom of trunk lip

Because of the 1/16" variation when measuring from bottom of the trunk lip to bottom of the script, I’d recommend reinstalling the trunk moulding and referencing from that. Hope this helps more than confuses!

WOW! Now that’s what I am tlking about! Thanks Dave…and yes…Cougarholic. I have been working on this car for 5 years…it has now come near the end and is causing massive sleep deprivation…if my Mercury script is off 1/16" I wont sleep for a week!

I can’t remember what they say is next to go!
