MidAmerica All Ford Show and Shelby Meet

Careful, once you start it’s hard to put down the go-fast-crack-pipe!

Holy crow, I already know that!!! By the time I left Friday, I was making mental notes on “a beat up Cougar that could be stripped and raced”…LMAO! I mean, those vintage guys need SOME motivation like back in the Parnelli days, no?

Cougar racer would be very cool! THIS CAR ran very well at this years Walter Mitty.

No problem on the pictures. I would have done the same thing! I have two 67 Cougar shells and the thought of turning one into a vintage racer is still being considered.

That’s a nice looking racer! I would be afraid of hurting that one. If I do one it won’t be that pretty and more business like, so if it gets turned around in a corner or scraps a wall it will just add to the racer look.

Agreed, very nice looking. But, there were some very nice looking ones out there this weekend. The Group 1 guys seem to know what they’re doing, and I didn’t notice anybody getting banged together. Of course, I couldn’t see the whole track, so who knows!!!

HMMMM, there’s an “affordable” 68 GT roller nearby…no engine or transmission…PRIMO candidate…

“Hello, my name is Todd, and I got hooked on the twisty track…”

I am still thinking about taking the plunge and making mine into a track car instead of a multi-purpose car. Seeing that burgundy cougar with a black vinyl top (my color scheme) makes me want to do it even more especially since I have the brakes and most of the front suspension for a vintage racer.

If any of you do decide to build a track car I urge you to first contact a vintage racing group in your area and find out what is allowed and required, for instance my group does not allow fabricated upper and lower control arms, must have period correct brakes, 15 x 8 wheels (rims), no drip rail shaving, etc…
Also a good idea to construct a roll bar to SCCA General Competition Rules (P. 98)

Thanks for the tips, Art!

First contact Art and buy :beerchug: and learn what not to do… Then learn the rules and how to bent them a little. Then go racing and get schooled by the veterans.

Jeebers, that’s a lot of information.

LOL, I’ve been schooled by “older/wiser” my whole life…sounds like my kind of thing!
