Modelling the AMT 69 Eliminator

I’m in the middle of a build of a 69 Eliminator kit and the engine compartment detail is woeful. It looks like a GM vehicle

Has anyone modified an AMT kit so the engine bay looks like a Cougar engine bay with shock towers, etc? Is there a resin engine bay available anywhere?

Looking for ideas before I pull out the saw and polystyrene sheet.

I have an AMT 69 Eliminator kit (from the 1990s) and an original 1973 annual kit sitting here. The 73 kit has fender aprons and shock towers. I did a quick test fit and it seems like it would work in the 69 kit. It may need a little plastic added or possibly removed to properly mate up to the radiator support. The only way I would really know would be to cut those GM looking inner fenders off the 69 chassis to test fit everything. Since the annual kit has the shock tower piece I would think that the many reissues of it would too. It might even be possible to use the reissue 73 chassis in place of the 69 chassis.

Thanks. I’ll have a look at the 73 kits in the stash

Also, if memory serves me, there is a '67 Shelby model out now that has a much more detailed engine compartment and chassis that might be good to take parts from.

Leon, you’ve jogged a 30 year old memory. At one point I started turning the '69 AMT kit into a replica of my R Code vert. Pretty sure I used the engine compartment details from a Revel (maybe Monogram?) Boss 429 Mustang kit.

PS - I got pretty far too, even made a filler panel for the trunk area. I got hung up w/the parade boot & finding the right shade of yeller paint. I bet it’s in a box in the attic.

Missing Link Resins sells a resin copy of the MPC (70-73) engine compartment on ebay from time to time. Also you can go to http://www.missinglinkrc.com/PartsPageTwo2015.htm

Also the AMT 67 Mustang fastback or Shelby kits can be used with a little surgery.

The 73 Cougar kit is derived from the MPC 69-70 kit so the chassis and engine compartment parts should fit pretty well. Bonus in this kit: 69-70 XR 7 wheel covers if you need them.

Thanks for all the ideas. Contacted Missing Link and he put one up on eBay for me. Now I just have to hope that it doesn’t get destroyed in post

Kevin usually packs his parts well in sturdy boxes so there should be no worries.
