Cool facts but some errors. In our car club one of our members has a 1968 T5. He didn’t know much about it so I did some research for him. While searching the web with help from members here I found the T5 registry. Here is what it says different to the scooter error in the news link above.

"Sometime in the early 1950s a German truck manufacturer, Krupp, introduced a large general purpose truck and named it the Mustang. They were issued German copyrights to the name Mustang and continued to build this truck for many years. This truck was built in several configurations including a dump truck and a fire engine. This then was the situation with the name Mustang that Ford faced when they tried to sell their successful pony car in Germany. Rather than simply buying the name from Krupp for a reported $10,000 they chose instead to change the name of all Mustangs exported to Germany to Ford T5s. T5 has no specific meaning but it was the original project name for the Mustang in the early 1960s. "

It’s funny because I thought the same thing about the Celica looking like a smaller version of the Mustang with amber turn signals on the rear. I guess I wasn’t alone in that thought . Cool Ford history.

Side note and somewhat on subject. Out of High School I purchased a “newer” 1976 Toyota Celica GT 5-speed, Beige w/saddle interior. As gas prices moved toward $1.00/gal. in 1979 and at its 26mpg, it seemed a prudent choice. That was a very fun car,…sporty, tight suspension and could burn the tires through 3rd. gear. It was a good dependable ride that had my attentions til 1989 when it was sold because the seats were worn and it needed a paint job. Wish I had it today!

The Original Project Name for the Mustang: Cougar

Yes, sort of…one of the studios (the Jon Oros studio who won )in the design contest was pulling hard for the Cougar.

As luck would have it, I own one of the cats that were used inside the grille-emblem. I found it on Ebay over 7 years ago…I have no idea how many were made, but it couldn’t have been too many!

Check out the pics on this page…

It is basically the “lioness” from this old classic Ford Emblem…but the interesting thing about it is the way it fits perfectly inside the '64-67 (and beyond) mustang emblem…
