Mustang Mach 1 rims on a 1970 Cougar

Hello everyone-

What do you think of Mustang Mach 1 rims on a 1970 Cougar… Has anyone done this or is there a fitment issue? I believe these rims are 17" and I like the way they look since they have a modern yet classic touch to them…

Suggestions…? I provided a link which shows you what they look like and also if they make cougar center caps to fit these wheels… so many questions… Happy Holidays

Thanks,

You will have to use a 1in. spacer, because of newer back spacing, There is a cougar glue on decal that I have seen on e-bay that looks pretty good. There are some really good 1in spacers also on e bay

I bet it would look pretty good ~ they are close enough to Magnums, and we all know those look great on just about anything

I like the style, but the offset leave very little dish on the front side of the rim which I think looks funny on an older Cougar or Mustang. The rim looks to flat on the front. Just my opinion and :biggrin2: everyone has one…

Since you asked for opinions, here’s mine:

I have those rims on my '04 Mach 1. I like them on that car.
That said, I’m not a fan of modern rims on older cars. As others have mentioned, the flat aspect to the face of the wheels looks decidedly non-vintage, and anything larger than a 16" rim doesn’t allow enough sidewall height to look right on a classic car, IMO.
I’m fully aware, however, that a lot of people do like the look, and if the idea of modern wheels and tires appeals to you, then either the “Mach 1” or “Bullitt” style rims would be appropriate choices on a '70.

do not use a wheel that requires a huge spacer! get a wheel that fits! your saftey and others depends on it!
that being said, a 17x8 wheel looks perfect on these cars and i disagree with cj750 you can get plenty of tire under them and have it look right
