Mustangs Unlimited GT-E sale

They listed the GT-E for sale again. B.I.N price 76k. One offer of 50k reserve not met. It sure has come down on price since asking 125k after Brian’s “Gunner” sold at BJ last year. So will it sell this go around? It will if I hit the lottery.

LMAO, not if I hit it first!

On the surface this looks like a great car, but a little digging starts to get people nervous. This may be a very good buy because of the way the car has been modified. Looking at the Marti report we see a Standard Cougar with the GT-E option group plus only four optional items: AM FM Stereo Radio, Tinted Glass, Remote Mirror, and Headrests. This would be an easy car to return to stock as nothing but the headrests are hard to find.

They say the dash has been updated, but actually most of the interior appears to be XR7. (door panels and rear interior quarter panels). The seat upholstery sure looks like the '69 Decore option, rather than the Standard it should have, or the XR7 that would match everything else. The center console is a mash up of an XR-7 lower section and a standard upper section (storage compartment, no clock). The biggest issue with all of this is not knowing what they did to accommodate the difference in XR7 and Standard wiring harnesses. Standard harnesses are much easier to find than XR-7 so even if you had to replace most of the harnesses it would still be doable.

To offset the cost of the changes, you would get a bunch of nice parts to sell off. In particular, the front valance with the fog lights might be nice parts for a G car in need. And the those bars across the rear lights are very cool, not original, but something like what was used on the prototype XR-7S. And it looks like it has a G shift knob. And of course the XR7 dash and interior stuff: much easier to find standard Cougar parts than XR-7.

One last caveat: I’d pull back that front fender and verify the numbers. If it all checks out this might be a lot of GT-E for the money.

I agree with everything you stated Bill. A lot of this was brought up in other posts about this car, either here or on the “other” site. I did not scroll through all of the pictures of this listing but it used to have a G scoop listed in the pictures. I like the rear tail light bars…XR7S type of cool. There was also discussion about if this car is in the GT-E database. Maybe Mr. Jim could clear that much up. If it is real it’s a cool car with good parts to boot.

Also looks like it has the rare “prototype” trunk lock cover with the walking cat, instead of the COUGAR text it should have. What to do with it? You could easily enjoy it the way it is, or go to a lot of effort to get it back to original configuration. It seems like the “wrong” parts on it are worth more than the “correct” parts it would take to replace them with, so a guy could probably do just fine with this car.

LOL! Yeah, now that the price is back down to earth for what it is and what it needs, it doesn’t seem like too bad a deal, eh?
