My 68 Grill Restoration

I want to share my photos and thank everyone for the information on how to tackle my 68 grill restoration. This is my first time tearing apart a Cougar grill and I have this community website to thank. I bought new vacuum pods, New chrome bars. used the heat gun to straighten out the pot metaland took my time. I’m really happy with the end result and just wanted to show off my work and thank you to everyone that has posted on the subject :sunglasses:

lots of elbow grease

sandblasted the steel parts

SEM trim black and new triple chrome bar.

Nice work!

Thank you!

Very nice!! Looks brand new!

Make sure you build a travel stop for the headlight doors to prevent twisting in the future since your running those vacuum pods

Thanks DieselD, I think they might be better than brand new because of the updated material in the vacuum pods and the better material the springs are made of, I forgot to mention that I did install the “stops”.

Very nice restoration. You did a great job.

Steven

thank you for the “stop design” S Code.

Very nice!! Hoping to do that to mine soon. I have my grilles temporarily installed on a parts car with the straightening kit on. Has been there for a couple months, hopefully it’ll stay straight.

Cool Blitz, I wonder if I would need the straightening kit. I did put the travel stops on but don’t know if it will eventually get misaligned again. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to put the kit on during the winter

That looks really great. The faded decals and paint on mine definitely need a refresh.

I converted from the vacuum actuators, so I need to finish up with the alignment on mine, my outer grills are still pretty wonky.

Thanks Huzer, good luck with yours, take your time and watch the videos and read up about it on this website. WCCC has a great video on how to get them all apart.
