Hey guys my name is Alex, and this is my first post/time on the forum. Just a little backstory on the journey so far:
My dad bought the cat in 04/05 and its sister along with it. I was pretty intersted in the car at the time but had little to no knowledge of any mechanics(due to my young age). As I entered highschool, I made sure I was in Autoshop from the very moment I could have it as a class. My dad, seeing what interest I had in the car surprized me on my 16th birthday by giving it/them to me, and that was the first time they moved in about 4 years. As of now, I am 17,and in the Automotive Service technician apprenticeship program at my local university, about half way through my first year of apprenticeship.
So far on the car I have just finished replacing the front framerail extensions and torque boxes and am saving up for the floorpans. Engine Is out, fenders have been off to check for rust, turns out I have to try to either replace or patch up the drivers side shock tower as there is a rust hole in it… the car is in desperate need of bodywork, and I have quite a few plans for the car in terms of engine and cosmetic work currently has stock 289 (also have a 302 w/4bbl)
As of right now, I have slowed down work because we just moved(car is covered in parts and various other garage appliances) and I got canned from my part time job.
I do not have very muchh for pics at all at this point but I will try to get some soon. In the mean time here is a picture I photoshopped one day with my desired “finished product” paint job.
Thank you all for your kind welcomes. Here is a pictue of it when I was just starting teardown at my old highschool, as of right now it is in my garage at home. Next update wiill be some pics after garage has been cleaned up and then some eventually photos ssoon of floors in, bodywork done and of that pesky shock tower… just something to look forward to.
So just an update. Been working hard at my auto course, so I haven’t had much time to clean the garage to work on the rest of my floors… but on the upside I made it into the top 5 highest grades in my class and we are nearing the end of my first year of apprenticeship. I got my 289 out of the garage and to school where it was torn down only to find cracked skirts on the pistons. Sending the block out to the machine shop in two or three weeks to have it checked for cracks, and bored out to 0.030" over. Getting some KB flat tops to replace the stock pistons. More pics to come asap.
Been really busy lately, found out I may get away without boring the cylinders out, but well see. Just about enough money to send the engine off to a machine shop and order my floors to boot! and I may have scored myself a job as a tech at BMW!!! So excited.
pics soon!
