I live in western North Carolina, in a small town. I am looking for my first Cougar, likely a 1969 or 1970 convertible. Any suggestions where to begin my search?
Thanks,
Gary

watch WCCC video about them. Look for a solid car. Don’t buy one from a rust prone area. Calif, N.M. Colo. great dry places …
Texas & Kansas… well Ive seen plenty of rusty Cats from that area.
Next XR-7 or standard.
Budget & ability to do work.
Skill & shop.
Good time to buy converts end of season!
Best to you !
Gary, I’m in Charlotte and have family in WNC. I have been restoring 69 convertibles for the last 20 years or so. I usually buy up any that pop up around here. Happy to help you in your search. I’ll PM you my number. There’s a lot of cars coming out of the woodwork as people are out or get quotes for paint on projects they’ve had for years. Best advise I can give is to be patient, and feel free to send me a car you’re looking at for my thoughts. I do know of a nice green / green one for $20k in my neighborhood.
Just because they are in a northern area does not mean that they are rust buckets.
I happen to live in Wisconsin and my 70 XR7 convertible is far from rusty.
Just have to ask the right questions.
My quarters & floor pans plus inner rockers were replaced 35 years ago.
And still look factory
Oh not for sale yet.
I too am from “Wis Con sin”, but referring to Cars that lived in those states as ones who used salt on roads, and have higher humidity. Since moving to Colorado in 81, Ive been spoiled to see , own & work on some of the nicest clean examples down to paper tags & chalk marks! Not dissing anybody (specially Cheese heads!), just trying to help him get a clean Cat!
Nice Cats BTW!!
Thank you for the kind offer. I would appreciate a heads-up on any convertibles that you know of. Maybe a picture. I live in Flat Rock, NC, and Charlotte is not that far.
Regards,
Gary
Do you have a budget in mind? Any particular model or color preference, or ones you won’t consider?
Thank you for your kind offer to help me. Any year from 67-70, XR7 convertible or XR7-G package. My favorite color would be yellow, but I would consider others. I would like to keep the price below $20,000, and the milage below 80,000.
Best regards,
Gary
This car is local to me, right across the street actually. Would be right at $20k. Super nice car, rock solid, 4v, AC.
I am going to be selling my car in the next month, as I am in the process of buying a different cougar. I am located in Auburn, AL.
Details below, sourced some parts already and had it serviced:
