My project

I’ve had this car for a number of years but health problems have been slowing me down. I have done some work in bursts and I have most of the parts I need to finish it with the exception of a couple of interior trim. I bought it in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and I just finally got around to ordering a marti report. Weird it was sold in Bethesda, MD not sure how it travelled up to this area. Can’t take pictures of it right now but I will be posting. Not sure how to post pictures but the line below should be the marti report.

Not sure if I posted this in the correct area but here it is. And I also need to thank Don for selling me a pair of med blue door panels as well.

This is the car that has speed control added to it with Ford parts. I’m going to get some close up pictures for everyone. Best I can find is that it looks that it was taken off of another model of 1971 mercury with a 351cleveland engine. Looks very much like a dealer installed this as everything is correct including all of the brackets to match a 1971 set up. But it’s not hooked to the steering wheel as I have a rim blow steering wheel.

I do know 1970 cougars had no speed control. And I have thought about all the aftermarket options, but that doesn’t explain the fomoco part numbers. I’ve added options like this before myself to other cars with parts from other models of the same brand.

The other thing I found odd about this car after reading the marti report was the listed console option. It has the original floor in it at present but there are no attachments or screw holes on the tunnel for the console and the carpet that came out covered the entire floor with no indents or marks, clean spots from a removed console??

Interesting mystery on the console mounting. Any chance the floors were replaced once already?

What changes (if any) are you making to the car? The tilt is a nice option to have.

I have been thinking about changing the outside color but I’m not sure now that I’ve seen the low numbers regarding the color combo on the marti report.

I’ve been leaning to a more modern silver/grey metallic or a nice metallic blue to go with the interior.
As far as any other changes I’m going to go as close to original as possible. Probably add Traction loc and find a console and the light wiring for it. Might upgrade the engine to M code specs as well.

As far as the missing console I believe that the original floor is still in the car or I should say what’s left. Inner rockers I’m replacing presently and haven’t decided on replacing the entire floor or just the two sides as the tunnel is still almost perfect

Other then the floor it’s just got the usual spots to be repaired on the door corners, lower rear fenders and a couple of blisters on the quarters. I can’t say when I’ll get time on it or finish it as I had four projects on the go but I just bought two 62 thunderbirds a few weeks ago. On sports roadster convertible and the other is an M code convertible.

My wife wants me to finish the thunderbirds first as there is no rust. They were stored in a heated basement and came from an estate sale.
Thanks for the comments and enjoy your cougars. I can hardly wait for mine…
