Need help with OEM radio 5-pin ROUND connector

I have an OEM radio that I just got out of storage (since 1975!). Can anyone tell me what the pin configuration is? Which pin is power, speakers, etc. See pictures below. Thanks in advance!

I have never seen that connector on a 60s or 70s Cougar radio.
This is from the 1970 Electrical diagram;
wire 19B, blue red, power
wire 137, Yellow Black, Dial light
Wire 57A, Black, Speaker Common
Wire 806, White, Speaker Right hand
Wire 807, Orange Speaker Left hand
If you open up the case you can also trace the wires inside the unit. I think the face looks like a 1970 AM/FM unit.

Are you sure it was working in 1975? It looks like a power transistor is missing on the front top right.

From the part number on the side, the first 2 characters D0 indicate that it is a 1970 radio. If you are looking to sell it, I might be interested.

My educated guess is that the yellow is accessory power, and the blue/pink going into the top is the light. Of the remaining three, one is probably ground and two are the speaker wires?

I believe someone put that connector on the wires, not factory. That is a vacuum tube pin sort of connector.

That style of connector was common on low end car stereo in the 70’s. I suspect that some one put it on so they could plug that radio into the same harness they used for an 8 track.

I have never seen a round plug on any original Cougar radio. There are 2 separate plugs. One for the power and one for the speakers.

Thanks all for your input and help. Having repaired and rebuilt a number of 65-68 Fords and Mercurys, I too was baffled by this connector; hence my post of this question. I was hoping to avoid cracking the case to trace the wires, but now I guess that’s my best option.

Leroy: Prior to selling, I wanted to determine whether it was still working. If I can determine its operational status soon, I will let you know. Thanks for your interest and help with dating the part number.

Not sure if it was working in '75. This was out of one of my brother’s cars, not one of mine. Back in the 1970s, we went through several Mustangs and Cougars, and acquired a few solely to strip for parts for our drivers.

Just happens there’s a similar one on ebay… so no transistor missing, thats just an option apparently.

I agree with everyone else that the pin connector is not factory. On my 67 8-track I have 5 wires on two separate plugs. Yellow with black stripe on it is power and is nested with the back light wire. 99% certain the white with red or pink stripe going into the top is the dial light from headlight switch. My guess is the others are speaker wires. I don’t think there is a ground that goes into the radio. My 8-track just gets case grounded with a separate wire.
