need inforamtion on '68 pin stripe specs

I get a number of emails from people requesting help with their cars from people that have not joined the board. While I think I have a lot of the answers, I don’t know as much as everyone on the board combined (and I never will!).

So here is today’s question from Dean C.:

Good day to you all. I am looking for Information on the layout and the Red color used from the factor for the pin-striping on my 68 cougar XR-7. The car is white with a black vinyl top. After having it repainted I have only the memory of the opprox 1/8 inch dual stripping that comes together I think front and back. HELP NEEDED.

Bill, I was working on this project over at the other joint. I never could get a consensus of what was correct. I had variations amongst several of the years. 1968 specifically had a difference between San Jose and Dearborn, never could determine if it was an early late thing, or ‘pinstripers preference’.
San Jose 1968 XR7

What you are showing here, plus or minus the flare at the ends ( i have seen the flare smaller than this, but not much bigger) is what I have seen most often on '68 model Cougars. The '67 seems to vary in the spacing at the door and the extensions, with most having no significant gap. What are the widths of each stripe and the space between them?

1967-68 Mercury Cougars:
Individual stripes range from 5/64" to 3/32".
Spacing on center is approximately 7/32".
Body panel gaps are 1/2", as measured on a 1968 San Jose XR7.
