Hi All,
I’m in the process of buying my first Cougar ('68 base with 289 2V motor and C4 auto) and need some advice on the center console.
The lower section is fine as far as I can tell, but the upper section has had the metal face plate (?) cut at some stage to fit a modern stereo and the radio pad/front piece is missing completely. Here are the only two pics I have of the interior that show the console, sorry but won’t have any better until the car lands in Australia:
I understand parts for these consoles are getting quite hard to find, but if someone could at least tell me what kind of console I have and what part(s) I would need to get it back close to original, I’d be most grateful.
So with '68 base (not XR7, etc.) Cougars, was there only one kind of console fitted? What was it called? (base, decor, etc.)
To assist in my search, are '67-'68 Mustang console parts interchangeable? All the Mustang consoles and some of the Mercury ones I’ve seen for sale on Ebay at the moment look similar to mine but they mostly have chrome trim running down the sides:
Could I use the radio pad and face plate off something like this?
This one looks closer to mine but still has a chrome strip running down both sides:
68 Cougar Standard and Mustang are identical in every way, 68 xr7 is another story… 67 Cougar and Mustang will fit but are quite different than 68. Mixing and matching 67 and 68 does not work well…
The interior is a bit of a mixture. The door panels are 68 base level but the front seats are décor level. Can’t see the rear seats to know what they are.
