Need torque convertor advice for my G - 68 390-4V/C6

So I am getting really close to installing the engine and trans into my Hertz-G and I have an issue with the original torque convertor. The rust pitting will destroy my new seal pretty quickly.

I believe I can buy a sleeve to put over it. Can’t seem to find the right one… Sending it out for rebuilding would cost $200 ($100 each way) just for shipping. Or maybe I should replace the torque convertor all together?

It’s stamped “46” on it, so it’s this one.

Seems like this one is pretty close to it:

C6 Transmission Torque Converter (Non Lockup-31 Spline) 1800-2200 Stall - FM127 - Price Includes Core Charge - Global Transmission Parts

Any suggestions on a stock replacement would be appreciated.

I would replace it with a new one. I’ve had great luck with the Hughes converters from Summit Racing.

Looking at the condition of your convertor, if nothing is done to your transmission, it is probably in need of rebuild as well. If keeping the original convertor is important to you, you can send it out for rebuild. Where are you located?

oh yah, I just finished fully rebuilding the trans. Also, made a rear clutch sprag oil mod to get it to oil like the 69+ versions.

I live in Vermont. Probably going with a new torque converter at this point.

where in Vermont? I am on the MA VT line in North Adams. I run Berkshire Transmissions. Let me know if I can help you with the torque convertor. The convertor rebuilder I use is in NY and it costs about 30 each way to ship.

thanks for the offer. I’m going to look into a replacement one first.

I live in Highgate, 10 miles from the US - Canada border.

sounds good.

20 yrs ago , we put a low gear set in or 67 390 gt car w c6. 5% lower in 2nd gear and 10% lower i 1st gear. Went from 3.0 rear to 2.70 rear gear but with the big block i now think 2.50 would be better and still have that big block get up and go

Think the components were based on c4 parts. Now we have all the neat o/d transmission s
