New Cougar

Hi all, just picked up my first Cougar and am very happy with it. It’s a 68 Standard with a 289. The PO installed an edelbrock intake and carb on it but I’m not sure if its going to stay. It has headers which leak and they will be coming off and being replaced with a set of exhaust manifolds I already have. Car is good driver quality as it sits but will need a few things before its really nice. I’m new to Cougars and have been reading a lot on this forum and look forward to being part of the Cougar community. I’m not new to Fords as this one is number 4 in the stable as you can see by my signature.

I will post a few pics when I can.

Welcome to the madness, there is lots of information to be had on this forum. Like that 427 torino

Here are few pics from when I started making this deal back in September. I’ll post a few when I pull it out of the trailer tomorrow with its paws in the snow…lol

Nice looking ride, but I would ditch those door ding guards.

Sweet looking Kitty! Congrats! Door guards are good news/bad news.

Congrats on getting your first Cougar. It looks like a solid car. Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community.

Funny it has the XR7 badging but a standard dash.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome. As for the door guards I would be afraid to remove them for fear of taking the paint with them. The car is a standard and someone added those XR 7 badges along with an XR 7 trunk lock cover. Does anyone know if those side badges are just peel and stick or did they have mounting pins? If just stuck on, then I’ll be pulling them off. I haven’t had a chance to really go over the car for little stuf like that yet.

Originally, the “C” pillar XR7 badges had two studs that went through the body with nuts on the backside. The nuts can be accessed by removing the interior side panels and gently pulling the headliner away so you can reach up behind it and remove them. Someone could have removed the studs and used emblem tape but I bet they drilled holes.
