My dad and I have just started to look for parts to re-do our 1969 Cougar, there are just a couple of things that I really need a price estimate on. We’re looking to put in new glass, upgrade the AC and the brakes, and put new tires on the car. I also want to put a 428 Cobra Jet in it and was wondering what a good price is for it and whether or not anymore modifications would be needed in order to put in that engine. (has a 351W in it now if that helps)

Welcome! I would not think it would be hard to install the 428, maybe different springs, motor mounts ect. I think the hard part might be the 428. Getting a good engine might be expensive. Someone else could chime in better than myself. Again welcome and good luck with you build.

Upgrading the AC to an aftermarket unit designed to run on 134a with a Sanden style sompressor, new condensor, evaporator, hose kit and all of the fittings is right around a grand… IF you install it yourself.

Putting a 428 CJ in it would be very expensive. If it’s more power that you want you’d get a lot more bang for the buck by building the 351 and maybe even stroking it.
