Hey Folks,
First off, this is an awesome sight. I’ve only skimmed the surface and I’m blown away with the quantity and quality of info.

My cat, I’ve owned it for…along time, due to life demands and maybe wife anger, my poor cat has spent the last 5 years in a barn. :wall:

Looks like things have settled down now and I can seriously get to work on it.

The cat is just a plain 289 2v three speed manual. No A/C, no power anything.

First thing is just to get it running and on the road. There is a lot on this poor old cat that needs fixing/ upgrading before she’s safe to drive

I’ll try and get some photos loaded.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hey.

Greg B.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks Mo,

I did get some pics of the car loaded.

I have always had a soft spot for zero option cars. They are just so simple: 1 fan belt. 2 vacuum lines, 1 for the distributor, the other for the headlights. No leaking power steering pump.

My first Cougar was close to no options. it got the center console, AM radio and automatic. Drum brakes, manual steering. The only thing I didn’t like was having to lean way over to rollup the passenger side window.

Welcome and we are looking forward to pics!

Looks pretty straight from where I’m sitting. And I agree, get your mechanicals sorted, THEN make it “pretty”. From experience, doing it all at once sure slow’s the process, and tends to get frustrating! Have fun!

Welcome to the CCC Greg.
I’ve gotta tell ya your barn cat looks a lot better than mine did when I finally dragged it out of my garage!
Todd is right, start with suspension and braking…get it safe to drive THEN make her pretty!
Hopefully you have a super secret stash of cash that only you and the cat know about and can keep secret from the angry wife! :bandit:

Greg welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. Having your Cougar road worthy and a wife that’s not angry sounds like a great combonation.

Like others my first Cat (inherited) was the bottom end, zero options model. Still had a lot of fun in that car, although when the headlights would go out at night it was a bit scary!

You also might want to check out http://www.mercurycougar.net, a lot of good info and people there as well.

And all the annoying ads you could ask for!

Now be nice, Al.
