New radiator shopping

Looking to get a new radiator as the old one was a half stuffed 4 core copper/brass that doesn’t fit a shroud. Concourse is not a factor for me seeing as how basic my model is I just want what ever will perform the best.

I live really close to NPD so was going to get their champion 3 core aluminum radiator for more performance and lighter weight.

would a 2 core 20" work just fine or should I go for a 24" what size and how many cores would everyone suggest in a 60-90 degree area?

Aluminum isn’t better, it’s cheaper and in my opinion looks unattractive and out of place. Aluminum cores also don’t usually work with a factory shroud and require modified mounting.
Do you have AC? What are you referring to when you say 60-90 degree? The thermostat? They are generally offered as 160, 180 and 190. You’ll want the high flow thermostat and I would go with the 180. The factory cores are generally two row.
This is a direct replacement. Be sure to buy a new cap, hoses and thermostat when you do your install as well.

Agree, my experience with the Champion brand 24" aluminum 2 core was that it didn’t fit worth poo and it did nothing to improve cooling compared to a 24" copper / brass reproduction. I recommend that you stick to OEM - like radiators.

I found a big difference with a Griffin aluminum radiator for my 69 with a 428. It has been in my car about 15 years. It is slightly wider than the stock radiator. It fits fine with the stock fan and fan clutch, but the aftermarket fan clutches bring the fan too close to the radiator.

I run a pretty hot engine yet it runs cool as a cucumber in stock cooling configuration. Likely your radiator had internal problems. Removing the thermal fan clutch and doing crap like flex fans and removing the shroud cause more issues than anything. Incorrect timing is another culprit.

I installed a Champion 3 row to in my 73 351 2v. Unlike you I was replacing a stock 2 row. The aluminum radiator has made a huge difference. It runs cool even in Florida summer traffic. No problem with fitment but I did have to drill two hole for top connection of the fan shroud.
