I’m trying to make my Cougar as original as possible without breaking the bank. So while some would say, “It doesn’t matter what color your backup light housing is.” Personally I’d like to try to get those details correct whenever I can. Is there someplace I can go online to get such detailed information? I recognize the collective knowledge and expertise of this forum but sometimes I feel like these kind of questions are too trivial to post. For example, the original AM/FM radio dial: is it supposed to say Ford or Mercury or Philco or nothing? I’ve seen all of these but don’t know which is the most authentic. I’d appreciate input on the radio but I’m more interested in finding out what other resources are available for details like this.
My guess…
Philco was Ford
& the winner is Mercury
Now which one was installed in your car… Marti will tell
J. Speegle would be the expert your looking for I believe.
Post the question on Facebook and get hundreds of wrong answers? I am biased but the most knowledgeable people in the Hobby are on this board. If you can’t find it here chances are that there is literally no one that will ever know if that particular detail is correct or not. And for 1968 the bottom right is the correct radio from what I can see in the image. They had to round off the pushbuttons used on the '67 radio next to it. In general a good place to start is going to be WCCC.
Keep in mind if one person like yourself needs the info and asks it, many more also need the info but will never take the time to join a forum but they will do a google search. WCCC is pretty good about updating the site when someone points an error so the info on the site is pretty reliable.
I typed in “am fm radio used” and this is what came up.

These are a good value for the money and fit pretty good.
I’m with you and recently acquired my second 69 Cougar with my first being nearly 30 years ago (am I really that old?) so I’m not remembering everything like I used to. Add to that that my other car was a Dearborn built so there are some inherent differences there as well.
Anyway I found this resource is okay for some of the things http://www.concoursmustang.com/, but it hasn’t addressed all of my questions and I’ve not posted many here yet, though I may get to it.
