Looks like the repo wheel lip mouldings are finally done.
Anyone tried them yet?

Can these reasonably be modified to work on a '70 or is that a waste of time?

We have an NPD here in Charlotte, I may pick up a set and do a review. I have an NOS set to compare them to. I bought some reproductions off eBay for a similar price and was NOT impressed, but these may be from a different supplier or an improved version.

I would be very interested in your review. I am doing a (as close as I can get) concours restoration. I’ve been looking at purchasing a NOS set, but if these are really close I was thinking of buying a set.

Will do. I’ll be up that way this weekend and will grab a set.

428 XR7 convertible, sounds like a cool project. What’s the story on it?

I went to NPD today and had them grab me a set. They indeed were from the same supplier as the set I bought off eBay a few months ago for about the same price. The set I received was much stiffer than the originals, which could be a good or bad thing. I couldn’t get mine to easily line up and they said to use some pressure to get them into place.

This reproduction did not seem to me to be a good option for a concours restoration, but probably fine for most cars. The set I received (and returned) was not polished out well and had numerous flaws from production. They may have worked out the finish better in this final production run.

So it is just another reproduction part made to be a semi-finished product then. They were able to make them kind of look like the original but not to fit as they should without using force to get them installed? What exactly is the problem visually once installed that makes you say you wouldn’t used them on a concourse restoration?

The biggest issue to me was the scratches and other marks left over from the production process. These were all over the trim making it look like a shiny used part. Visually they were similar to the originals, outside of the ends in the front where the moldings taper off at the bottom.

I definitely respect the time put into creating them. If these improve in subsequent runs, I’d be happy to recommend them.

This is a little dated, but I took Don’s advice. They look great. My car is nowhere near a concourse resto but looks pretty good.

There is a mom and pop operation out of Georgia that’s offers these repo’s for 69-70. I wonder if that is what these are? So these aren’t the Dynacorn repops. Did Dynacorn give up on all the trim pieces that they were supposedly coming out with?

Many many thanks for looking at those. Guess I’m on the hunt for a NOS set. I found my car about 12 years ago on Craigslist of all places. All original 89k mines on it. It had been sitting in a barn in TX since 1980. Had Been hit and repainted in the 70’s so decided to do a full resto on it

Lots of six figure show cars wearing my restored set at half the price of NOS. Keep in mind NOS often have shelf wear.

Finding good wheel lip “cores” these days, is just about as hard as finding NOS ones. And I am pretty certain that both 1969 and 1970 rear moldings are the same. The difference is in the quarter panel itself, not the wheel opening size. So I am confused why NPD would say these fit 1969 but not 1970…

In 1970 they opened up the rear wheel opening an extra inch to fit larger tire sizes. That’s why 69 and 70 rocker panel moldings are different lengths. But the same wheel lip moldings will fit both.

I was also holding out for NOS wheel lip moldings and Don finally talked me into trying a restored one. Sure enough, the NOS molding had more scratches on it than the restored one did. You won’t be disappointed in the WCCC restored ones if you go that route.

Thank you for that! Would you consider doing a review on our website?

Sure Don - done!
