Oil with zinc

Who uses an oil with zinc in their cars and what kind do you use. 10W-40, 5W-30, synthetic or non-synthetic? Curious.

I use Lucas Hot Rod and Classic oil 10w30

I use Valvoline VR1 10W-30 Racing Oil which the label says is high zinc.

It’s what my engine builder recommended.

I’ve also used Castrol 10W-30 with Rislone zinc additive.

Yes, Valvoline ZR-1 because it is at every auto part store and reasonably priced too.

I uses Joe Gibbs Racing Driven oil. HR oils are the Hot Rod oil. Made for cars that sit around over winter or are driven only once in a while. They keep engine lubricated more than other oil. It has the high Zinc needed for flat tappet cams. They have it in all the grades we need.
Synthetic and conventional.

I run Chevron 10-40 with a bottle ZDDPlus.
Several people I know use Brad Penn or Valvoline Racing (ZR-1)

ZDDPlus is what I used to add to “regular” oil but no more since I have 408C with a hydraulic roller cam. I have a number of bottles that I need to find a new home for.

Those bottles would probable really enjoy the shelf in my garage!

VR1 in 10-30 the last 6 quart case I purchased was 49.50

How many do you have and what’s your price?

I was going to use synthetic oil on my next oil change. Is it better to go with the Valvoline ZR1 instead?

I use the VR1, straight 30W.

Brad Penn 10-30. No problems and continued use on previous owners advise, considering he had the engine rebuilt.

sigh I remember buying a quart of oil for $0.30. Gawd…I must be old!

Joe Gibbs Driven.

Good info all. Thanks. I will be changing my oil very soon before winter sets in. I will drive the Cougar to work tomorrow and Friday since we will have some really nice weather. Anyone use StaBil in their tank for the winter? I am new to the cold winters here since I came from Northern California where we could drive pretty much all year round. I am not taking the Cougar out with snow and ice.

I have been using Royal Purple HPS in all my cars. Amazing!
