I’m replacing the belt line weatherstripping now that it finally arrived, in addition to addressing both door courtesy light that don’t come on…drivers door wiring is broken at drivers side door opening, but I have replacement WCCC door harnesses for both doors.
While I have the door panel off to replace weatherstripping and harness, any suggestions for anything else I should do?
Yeah, don’t accidentally put the beltline stripping on backwards, as in the wrong side of the car. It’s a real B to get back off without doing any damage.
Clean and lube the door lock and latch mechanism, door window slide and rollers, inspect glass run and wing window rubber seals.
Lower door window bumper in place?
I did my Door Cards while i was in there and cleaned the vinyl real good, Removed the door Glass Guides, cleaned and re-greased with lithium grease. cleaned the window mechanism, oiled the door locks, then begrudgingly put in the new weatherstripping, the Staples are a total PITA. Go slow and have patience is the best I can say.
The surface that the beltlines attach to in the doors have small slots. These slots get bent out from removal of the old beltlines.
Correct these by hammer & a flat punch.
Also note the location in the slot of the “stapled” retainers & try to locate the new ones in a slightly different location.
So how do you tell which side is the correct one? I did not know there was a differance. Might be why I had a little trouble getting the side with the clips to be tight.
The front is cut square where it meets the vent window. The rear is cut on an angle both inside and outside. You have to drill a hole in the repro parts for the screw at the rear on the inside.
I have a 1967 Mustang (along with the 70 Eliminator) but I am redoing all of the lining and guides in both doors on the 67. Do you supposed to grease the runner channels that the rollers ride in? My car has aftermarket power windows that have gotten pretty sluggish over the few years that I have owned the car so I though a good cleaning and rebuild of most parts would certainly be in order. I removed all of the old gunk from the runners and replaced one of the upper rollers on the passenger window. I also have a stripped mounting bolt in the forward of the Passenger Vent Window frame so I am going to try a heli-coil on that issue.
The electric mechanism works pretty well without any glass in it and I’ve read to use silicone grease for the rollers but what about greasing the channels themselves? Did Ford do this in 1967 or leave them dry?
This time it is 70 Cougar Eliminator reference. The stainless trim that goes above the side windows and screws onto the body (that holds the weatherstripping on the top of the door glass). Does anyone have a pic of which screw goes in which hole? I have about 20 miscellaneous sheet metal screws with various heads and thread depths. I assumed they were all alike, perhaps not?
It sounds like you are talking about the roofrail weatherstrip retainer. If so that piece is held in place by a phillips head screw with a very flat head that is a little larger diameter than a normal screw. I would say that the threads are about 1/2 inch long. This is the only style screw used on that retainer. Also do not forget that there is a small metal bracket that goes on one of the screws on each side.
