Our 1970 Standard Project

Got her from Johns Classic Cougar in Holland right around the 4th of July.

351C (2 barrel), with a Carter AFB Competition 4 barrel carb slapped on it. Has its issues and some rust, but we plan on getting her repainted this winter. Current goal is to get her to be drivable.

Have currently replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, and coil. Got one of the electric headlight conversion kits, and an ac unit as well we plan on working on this winter, as well as a 4 speed top loader waiting for a bell housing and clutch assembly.

Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. It looks like you have a great and solid project. I’m sure I won’t be alone asking this but when you have time share more pictures. Everyone here likes pictures.

As requested… Can’t take anymore pictures until she comes home, but here’s what I got.

Lights are held down by a bolt the guy added in. Everything works, sequentials too, just needs new bulbs on the rear and one of the high beams are out. But electrically, the car is pretty sound. The vacuum system is all there, but we decided to just go with an electronic system and forgo diagnosing it.

Ended up having to take valve covers off to get to the third, sixth, and seventh spark plugs. Absolute PITA. And I’m a girl with tiny hands!

Engine is pretty clean, no gunk in the lifters. But it still doesn’t want to be happy. Hopefully tomorrow the garage will want to work on it first and I’ll have it by the end of the day to take pictures of the work we’ve done on it so far.

Rear bumper needs to be re-chromed, and we can see some ripples in paint from rust, but it was an Ohio car, its expected. Underneath the car, it seems very smooth, and recently repainted as well. Carpet, headliner, and seats were redone by John before we picked up the car, so once we get the brakes and misfire figured out, the car is ready to drive.

Plan on eventually going with a nice pearl black on the car, and moving away from the green interior (original color for it). Also picked up a center console, but mostly excited to get that top loader in at some point!

Welcome! I saw that Cat at Johns a while ago and thought maybe Pole Cat needs a playmate. I did not want to get shot so I did not even bring it up. Nice to see some more west Michigan representation here as well.

He picked her up from Ohio for us! Hopefully all it needs is this tune up and brake job, and that should be about it for getting the car on the road. Really wanted to get it ready for the 28th street cruise, but instead the whole night we were both cursing up a storm trying to change spark plugs LOL.

We have some work we want to do on it come winter to keep us busy, but for now we just want to get the car to the point we can go cruise around this fall!
